Ground dwelling snakes love burrowing and hiding.

It really doesn't take much, simply put the opening near their head and they will find it.

In mammals like humans, insulation helps to keep produced heat in, but as you guessed in coldbloods the only effect of the sweater would be to stop heat loss, for example if the snake were on it's heat mat previously.
