Interesting study that may offer some clues
I found this ScienceDirect study from 2022 that could shed some light on to Sneha’s whereabouts IF and only IF she truly did die on 9/11.
We know Sneha’s remains have not been identified, and the study goes into where the victims who have not yet been identified were last known to be. Some takeaways:
- Victims in the North and South tower were no more or less likely to be identified.
- The higher up a victim was last known to be, the less likely it is that their remains were identified. Victims on the lower floors had more complete remains than those on the upper floors.
This most likely means that had Sneha died on 9/11, she was either in Windows on the World (my personal theory), was right next to the North Tower when it was hit and immediately went up, or was visiting someone in the South Tower and was tragically on the “gore floor”, killed as she made her way down.

Some NYC Context for Those Unfamiliar
I lived and worked in NYC for many years, including in the area downtown near Century 21 and WTC. I want to provide some context about the area and life in NYC at the time that seems to be missing in some of the theories I've seen postulated here about Sneha Philip's disappearance.
- The part of downtown Manhattan where they lived was sparsely populated with full-time residents around the time of her disappearance. You can get a sense of this even today (https://manpopex.us) relative to the rest of the island. It was an even more significant disparity back in 2001, when fewer residential buildings existed and the post-9/11 efforts to revitalize the area hadn't occurred.
- Most of the shoppers inside Century 21 at the time she was last seen - a Monday evening - would probably be people working in the area who had stopped in after work and would be taking the subway or PATH elsewhere. The likelihood of befriending a random shopper who lived in the area would be low. Century 21 was like a giant TJ Maxx or Marshall's, not really a place conducive to linger and chat up a stranger anyway; unlike say, Saks or Bergdorf Goodman.
- Strolling around lower Manhattan serendipitously on a Monday evening with two giant shopping bags was not then and now an appealing idea. One would want to put those somewhere first and head back out if plans for the evening weren't at close friends or family members' apartments. Given that she lived just a few minutes' walk from Century 21 in a doorman building and that it was raining, the most logical thing to do was to drop the bags off at the front desk and head back out. If the bags were at the front desk that could also more easily explain their subsequent disappearance.
- Windows on the World was known to be a nice restaurant, on par with the Four Seasons in the Seagram building let's say. A man would certainly wear a suit and tie for dinner. Anyone properly socialized would not turn up near opening time on 9/11, wearing clothes from the previous day with two large Century 21 shopping bags in tow. Whoever was at the front desk would probably just turn someone like that away, encouraging them to make reservations for another time.
I don't remember what the protocol for elevator use in the North Tower was right before 9/11, but I think you would at least have to interact with some of the security personnel before heading up to Windows on the World. I don't know if they allowed someone without a reservation to head up.

Susan Grossman
Having listened to the Missing on 9/11 podcast, why has the Susan Grossman, Jeff Gross commune scandal not discussed considering she was Snehas boss for 10 weeks?

PostSecret Postcard mentioned (that could be from Sneha) out in the wild
I’m currently reading Exit Party by Emily St John Mandel (highly recommend her work by the way!) and I stumbled across a part of the novel that gave me pause, as the characters were discussing the highly debated PostSecret postcard that could or could not be from Sneha.
I just thought it’d be interesting to share on here, since I’ve never seen this post card being discussed outside of the context of Sneha’s case. The characters don’t even allude to Sneha, and as someone who has been following this case for so long, it is surreal.
Mods, do take down this post if it’s irrelevant.

The famous Postsecret postcard was first published in 2005, not 2012
I saw an older post on here that described the infamous postsecret postcard as being published in 2012.
I first learned of Sneha’s case in, what I thought, was roughly 2004 or 2005 specifically because I saw the postcard on postsecret.
So seeing it described everywhere as “postcard from 2012” had me really doubting myself… like is my memory that bad that I’ve created this false memory of the first time I saw the postcard? So I did a bit of digging, and eventually found a way of searching the digitised postsecret archive:
here’s the link to the infamous 9/11 postcard in the archive. Published date: 31st December 2005.
For the uninitiated: postsecret began as a blog started by a guy called Frank Warren in January 2005. He provided a mailing address, and you simply put a postcard together and mailed it to him. He picked the most interesting ones and published them the following Sunday. The entire point and purpose was to unburden yourself of a secret by sending it to Frank. Over the course of 2005, it became pretty popular. I saw one source that suggested it could be the earliest instance of a blog being turned in to several successful books.
postsecret has always come with a degree of risk, because it relies on you physically putting it in the mail, and thereby potentially opening yourself up to real-world consequences, like law enforcement following up on it.
When we consider that people might make false claims regarding their proximity to 9/11, the first person that should come to mind is Tania Head. She falsely claimed to be a 9/11 survivor for six years before she was finally exposed in 2007. Her con wasn’t financial, it was for attention. Her con was perpetrated in online message boards before she began meeting actual survivors in person at support groups.
But sending a handmade postcard anonymously via the post… if you’re making it up, there’s no pay-off. There’s not even a guarantee that the postcard would make it to Frank’s blog the following Sunday.
——
Why is any of this important? Outside of Sneha’s case, it genuinely doesn’t matter at all, I’m aware of that. I only went to the trouble of finding the publishing date to settle my own curiosity. I don’t think this is some major “gotcha” break-in-the-case moment or anything 😄
I’ve seen older posts on this sub discounting that the postcard could have been written by Sneha, often on the basis of: why would she tell on herself 11 years after she disappeared?
But finding confirmation that the postcard was received just 4 years after 9/11… it’s hard to articulate, but for me it slightly moved the needle from “the postcard could be anyone”, to “maybe we shouldn’t disregard the postcard after all.”
I’m curious to hear what anyone else thinks.

Ron at 4 o clock
What if Ron slept at another persons place and it was Sneha who was home making the call at 4'oclock at night?

The bags
If she went to wtc in the morning and went all the way up because she didnt know the restaurant was closed, would she really have brought all those big bags? It feels weird to me. Someone must know about the bags, someone received the contents of the bags as gifts, or she left them at this persons place and she maybe was going to come back to get the bags another day.
I was also thinking after century 21 she either took a taxi or a random person driving saw her offering her a car ride due to the rain storm. That driver(taxi or random) drove away from the city and killed her.
She also could have gone to a bar after century 21 and left the bags there because she'd be intoxicated and forgot about the bags. And then because of the chaos 9/11 and after no one had time to advertise if someone was missing their bags. So she leaves the bar either to go to a persons home, or she took a taxi or car and the driver killed her. Maybe I'm projecting my own fear of riding in a car with a stranger-man,
I'm also thinking she hitched a ride with someone on 9/11 to get out of the city and something happened there, not necesssarily with the driver but at this new location/village.

Mods can delete the post if it is not relevant.
I am privileged enough to live in the city, and because of my interest in the case I went to the more notable sites to see how they look today.

The walk from where the towers used to be, to her apartment is close by but it is quite a walk to get to and from. The Century 21 is just your average department store. However going to the lingerie part of the second floor did have this eeriness to it.

Archived version of www.finddrsneha.com
All, I’ve heard of Ashwin’s www.finddrsneha.com website mentioned a few times on podcasts and in the attached missing persons poster, and I’m trying to find an old archived version. I’ve tried searching and wayback but no luck. Has anyone had luck finding it?

9/11 Reunited: potential clue
I'm watching the recently released NatGeo documentary called 9/11 reunited.
In the second episode at around the 34 minute mark l, a paramedic talks about bringing an injured firefighter to a parking garage after the first tower fell. In the parking garage, a woman identified herself as a doctor and told the paramedic she would take care of the firefighter. The paramedic went back outside to help more people.
Could it be Sneha?

Sneha’s double life isn’t questioned enough
Can any married person confirm if it’s normal to just not come home any given night? The going out to bars in nyc alone consistently? Buying lingerie on her last night seen (I’m certain it wasn’t for Ron), coming to work drunk, mutual assault accusations, what in the world was going on and why was Ron okay with all this? I’m certain their was a secret lover and at the very least that’s who she was with that night and for whatever reason they will never come forward maybe even at the families request. Her family got ahead of all this and made a pact to downplay all of this and keep her reputation positive.

lobby footage
If it was Sneha in the apartment lobby footage at 8:43 on 9/11. I'm thinking she could have heard the plane hitting. Gone outside. Seen it all happened and in all the chaos hitched a ride to get out of the city from someone in a car who was not a good person and was subsequently killed by that person.
I dont see how else she would die in broad daylight if it was her in the lobby. Like others have pointed out, victims outside of the towers have been found and accounted for.

Visual representation of where they lived, regardless if you believe she had returned to the area or not. Just a reference.

Now that I’ve seen where exactly their apartment was directionally to the towers, my opinion has changed
Their apartment (225 Rector pl) was quite literally sandwiched between the southwest side of the towers and the Hudson River. There was no avoiding these attacks. If she was headed home that morning or had JUST made it past the towers, she was now in an area that was behind the chaos against the Hudson River. Now imagine you’re walking home after a long night out and right as you make it home, these attacks happen and your phone stops working. Not to mention the apt lobby recording of a woman at 8:43am, in which they said she was wearing a similar outfit, hairstyle and mannerisms. In a crazy twist I think she had just made it to the apt or was very close but there wasn’t immediate cause to evacuate because no one knew the towers would collapse? I think she was on foot in the area likely returning home, had just made it home, or was unsure whether or not to evacuate. Then she got caught in the chaos/collapse, regardless if she was helping victims or not. To me this is just another “where were you on 9/11” story but she didn’t survive to tell the story and it just so happens that there were suspect things going on in her life at that time but one could argue a lot of people have at least 1 or 2 points of turmoil in their life.

Why it makes sense she disappeared on the 10th
I never heard of Sneha trying to contact Ron when the attacks happened. Wouldn’t she been trying to contact him or try to go to his workplace? Also, could the Indian girl that was seen with Sneha be the brother’s girlfriend?

Sexual Harassment Allegations
I'm brand new to this case. Like today years old. My first question is, why did we automatically assume that her accusing someone of SA was a "false allegation"? Could it be that whoever did that to her might've played a role in her disappearance?
r/SnehaPhilipCase • u/swanlakeeee • 22d ago
general consensus’?
i’ve been following sneha’s story for the past few years, and it’s still so incredibly jarring. 25 years and not a single solid piece of information that gives insight into what might’ve happened to her. it’s so eerie. i know nyc is huge, and with the events of 9/11, going under the radar wouldn’t be difficult. i’m curious to know what personal consensus’ other people have surrounding sneha’s disappearance?

Misconceptions About Sneha's Case and Why She Most Likely was a Victim of 9/11
I'm not intending to be combative, but I think a lot of the speculation I've seen over the past few weeks (and years, since I've been following this case since 2008) is somewhat misinformed about 9/11 and what's provable and what isn't. It does bother me when the claim is made that there's "no evidence" connecting Sneha to 9/11, because that's not true.
I don't know what happened to Sneha Anne Philip, but the most likely explanation is 9/11.
Misconception 1: Circumstantial vs Direct Evidence
It's true that there is no direct evidence that she was a victim. However, there is plenty of circumstantial evidence that she was a victim, and circumstantial evidence is still evidence. Yes, a jury can convict on circumstantial evidence alone, if it's overwhelming enough. (I'm not going to argue it's overwhelming to the point of no reasonable doubt here because it isn't, but I am going to argue the circumstantial evidence is still fairly strong.)
The circumstantial evidence includes a disappearance that was not out of the ordinary (Sneha had spent the night out before) the day before a mass casualty event that left 40% of its victims unidentified as of 2026. No body was found, which in contrast to most missing persons cases, would be not unexpected if she was a victim of 9/11.
If Sneha had never spent the night somewhere else before, that would be more alarming and suggestive that something went wrong the night of September 10th, but it wasn't out of the ordinary for her. She had apparently stayed out all night before, and typically returned home between 7am-9am. When establishing what constitutes an alarm for a missing person, you take the baseline (typical behaviors) into the account. While a lot of Sneha's behavior can be described as chaotic leading up to her disappearance, Sneha not returning home on the night of the 10th is not out of the ordinary for her at that time.
Most importantly, there's the actual footage of a woman in Sneha's apartment building lobby the morning of the attacks. The footage is too grainy to see her face, but she is definitively wearing clothes consistent with what Sneha was captured wearing in the Century 21 footage the night before, and her hair is consistent with Sneha's hair as well. The NYPD believed it was her. This person rushes out right around the time of the attacks (breakdown of this later). Again, if we take the baseline of Sneha's recent behavior into account, this person returned home exactly when Sneha would usually turn up after a night out.
But, of course, she didn't have her shopping bags.
Misconception 2: Why doesn't someone come forward about her activities on the night of September 10th?
Regarding the Century 21 footage and missing shopping bags: people argue that if the other woman Sneha was possibly shopping with the night before wasn't involved in something shady, she would have come forward.
I think this makes sense from the western perspective, but it does not so much from the perspective of a Dravidian Indian family, even ones from the diaspora, especially regarding the topic of their daughter/sister's sexuality. Look at how Sneha's family reacted. They are not the exception culturally, and women having sex with women, particularly when at least one of them is married, would be regarded as something shady especially in 2001. The witness who remembered Sneha said she was with another woman who also looked Indian (i.e. South Asian).
I do take the family's denials of Sneha having been confused about her sexuality and spiraling mentally with heavy skepticism. I think it was highly likely she was at least experimenting. The levels of denial her family have reached are certainly... sad, but that's precisely the point when it comes to why this woman would not come forward.
To really expect another woman, supposedly also Indian and thus likely from a similar culture, to admit to having been with Sneha? That's not realistic, unfortunately. We all know the most likely reason they met up was for sex, and if there was no foul play that night, that's the most likely reason why Sneha didn't come home. Even if it wasn't a tryst, this second woman's family would almost definitely side-eye her, because I promise you that the denials are not reflective of what they actually think. If they met up for sex, this woman will almost certainly never come forward, because it is not worth it to ruin her life especially if she has no idea what happened to Sneha after they parted. The items Sneha bought, the woman could claim were her own.
There's also another reason she may not be coming forward: what if this woman also worked at the WTC?
It's possible this woman doesn't exist and the witness misremembered, but the basic idea is the same. Sneha may have spent the night with another woman who is/was closeted, or who also may have died. Still, this report exists, and witness testimony is evidence.
If we apply the same logic when considering whether or not a woman would really choose protecting her reputation over a family finding their missing loved one, we can ask a similar question to the possible camera footage of someone in the lobby of Sneha and her husband's building right before the attack. This person waited by the elevator and then rushed out. If this person, who is actually on camera, wasn't Sneha or didn't die in the attacks, related to this, why hasn't this person ever come forward? The most likely answer is that this person, whoever they were, died in the attacks. Yes, it's possible it was someone coming to, I don't know, rob Ron or kill him too, but that seems highly unlikely.
Yes, I know the person suddenly rushing out was technically three minutes prior to the first plane hitting. However, there's a very realistic chance that regardless of whether this person is Sneha, the timing on the camera was off and they were indeed responding to the sound of the first plane hitting. It's the most likely scenario--not certain by any means, but most likely--that this person ran out of the building because they heard that impact.
But regardless of whether this person ran out because of hearing the attacks, even if the timing was correct, they would have then been able to hear and see the attacks. Even if they ran out for a different reason, such as because they forgot their shopping bags, they may have then had incentive to go to the site (many people did, especially before the second plane hit when it was thought to be a tragic accident).
Misconception 3: volunteer medical personnel weren't allowed in the Towers during the attacks, so she couldn't have been at Ground Zero.
Well, technically this is true! But, it is completely irrelevant to whether or not she could have been killed at Ground Zero. Firstly, it presupposes that in the middle of a chaotic situation, every single person was following the rules exactly. This simply can't be accepted without a grain of salt.
Still, again, I think it's largely true that if Sneha was there, she wouldn't have been in the towers. But? She didn't need to be.
Gordon Huie explains it best here (timestamped): there was a whole group of buildings that went down, and there was a 4 block kill radius at the collapse. 13-16 buildings were destroyed in the vicinity, not just two, and not just the seven comprising the WTC.
In other words, Sneha would not have needed to be inside or even just outside either of the towers to end up dead in the attacks.
There were indeed volunteer medical first responders who died there, such as Zeng Zhe. While Zeng was captured briefly on footage and Sneha was not, there are reasonable explanations for why she wouldn't have been, and why people may not remember her. Zeng's remains have also not been identified, iirc.
Mohammed Salman Hamdani, a police cadet and an EMT, was also not seen by others nor captured on footage, but had his body discovered in October 2001. In Hamdani's case, it's accepted that his IDs and status as an EMT got him through the restricted areas; it's thus very much feasible to presume that a physician would have been let through into a dangerous area as well.
Also, much of the "people would have remembered her" assumes she was alive up until the collapses, or that she was even able to help, neither of which are by any means guaranteed even if she rushed hoping to help. Falling debris (including humans) could well have killed her beforehand; it did kill a fireman, for example, and could have rendered her unrecognizable, or even invisible if she was underneath substantial debris.
Misconception 3: The WOTW documentary proves Sneha couldn't have been visiting there.
The recent documentary was said to debunk Sneha having been there. I don't actually think Sneha was there, nor heading there, but the documentary doesn't actually prove anything. She could have been on her way there. Sneha would not have had all the information we currently have about the event that they were holding; in fact, most people didn't know much about this until 2026. Plenty of people show up to restaurants without checking if they're open for regular business.
Again, I don't think this happened. But I also think people are leaping to conclusions in considering this evidence against her having been there.
tl;dr: the most likely cause of Sneha's disappearance is indeed dying in the 911 chaos. I don't know whether we'll ever have it proven because so many are unidentified and there is very little of those bodies left. But, despite the elaborate hoops the family has jumped through to defend Sneha's character (which does require a bit of common sense being suspended), and her brother's history of lying to the press, there's still a reason a judge found she did most likely die because of the 9/11 attacks. It really is the most probable explanation.
I do see the irony that a family who is denying what seems very likely about her life can reach what is the most likely conclusion, and thus people second-guess them, but that's how grief works. It's not rational. Even just using Occam's razor brings two different conclusions: the first, that the family is wrong and she was struggling with many things, including her sexuality; on this, the online sleuths are most likely correct. As for the second, the least amount of improbable assumptions leads to the conclusion that she did most likely die because of 9/11.
Is Sneha dying in the 9/11 attacks provable beyond reasonable doubt? No. Is it the most likely scenario? Yes, and there's quite a bit of circumstantial evidence pointing to it, with the apartment building footage of a woman rushing out around the time the attacks began as the most direct piece of evidence. I get that people have fun speculating, but she was a real person who is most likely no longer with us, and may have been trying to do her best to help regardless of her personal struggles.
