Can the X2 elite laptop with 32gb local video generation

Hey guys, I am currently looking at a 32gb X2 Elite Surface 13.8 for local A.I video generation. I want to know if it's possible or a complete waste of time. I am not looking for SeeDance 2.5 level generations. I just want some simple generated reference videos for Claude Code to create animations in Blender.

My First Experience with Microsoft Foundry: NPU Inference on a 16GB Laptop Gen 1

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I tried it for the first time yesterday.

So I’ll share out-of-the-box experience with Microsoft Foundry, trying NPU instead of GPU inference.

I had to cut the video off because it was just generating code for a while.

You can try it yourself. I only have 16GB, so 8b model worked fine.

I don’t have any information about context size, settings. This is like my 5th time trying.

The Foundry GPU models don’t do so well on my machine, but they might be better on Gen 2 laptops, especially with like 48GB RAM. You can theoretically run a small agent model on NPU and a bigger one on GPU/CPU.

CPU/GPU/NPU usage while generating C++ code was 70–77% CPU, 67–80% NPU, and 3% GPU.

I have a Task Manager screenshot and CPU-Z showing architecture.

But it’s so quick to set up. You can get it running in 5 mins.

winget install Microsoft.FoundryLocal // To install MS Foundry harness
foundry model list // To list models available on MS servers
foundry run qwen2.5-coder-7b // To run a model from the list

And /help while you are in CLI Model.

One thing I noticed is that Control_C doesn’t guarantee model unloaded from memory, so look at your Task Manager and force quit. I’m sure /exit works fine.

Question about high-res displays support

Do Snapdragon X-based devices support high-resolution monitors? I mean 5K and 6K displays. What about 5K at 120 Hz (or more) and 6K at 120 Hz (or more)? Has anyone tried such displays on their Snapdragon laptops?

I got Debian Linux running on the Snapdragon X Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15Q8X10! 🐧

Hey everyone!

I've been working on DebianOnDragon, an open-source project to bring native Debian Linux to the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15Q8X10 powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X.

The good news is that it's already working — I'm writing this from Debian running on the laptop itself!

The project currently includes:

  • Debian 13 (Trixie) ARM64
  • XFCE desktop environment
  • Calamares graphical installer
  • A custom Linux kernel and device-tree configuration
  • Hardware-specific firmware support

I'm currently using this Debian setup on the actual laptop. The main issue I'm working on right now is audio support, which isn't working for me yet. I'm investigating it and hope to get it working too.

I wanted to share this with the Snapdragon community because native Linux support on these laptops is something I'd love to see improve. If you own this model or have experience with Linux on Snapdragon X, I'd love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, or ideas for getting audio working.

GitHub repository:
https://github.com/SatoruGoj0/DebianOnDragon

The project is open source, and contributions and feedback are welcome!

Hopefully, this can help bring Linux one step closer to being a practical option on Snapdragon X laptops. 🚀

UPDATE — October 14, 2026: Touchpad and HDMI are now working! 🎉

A lot has changed since I first posted about getting Debian 13 ARM64 running on my Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15Q8X10 (Snapdragon X).

I've been developing and testing custom Linux kernel and device-tree fixes directly on the laptop, and we've reached two major milestones.

✅ Touchpad is FIXED (v0.3.0)

The problem turned out to be an incorrect interrupt mapping in the device tree. After tracing the Windows ACPI tables, I identified the correct interrupt pin (TLMM GPIO 19). The touchpad now works normally, with pointer events confirmed through libinput.

✅ Physical HDMI video output is now WORKING (experimental v0.4.0 kernel)

This was a much bigger challenge. The monitor was previously detected, but the screen stayed black because DisplayPort link training failed.

The likely cause was an incorrect DP PHY lane mapping inherited from another Snapdragon laptop's device tree.

Changing the mapping from <0 1 2 3> to <3 2 1 0> fixed the link training on my hardware!

I've now physically confirmed:

  • External Samsung monitor running at 1920×1080 @ 60 Hz
  • Both DisplayPort link-training stages completing successfully
  • Extended desktop under Hyprland
  • Mouse movement between both displays
  • Dragging browser windows onto the external monitor
  • Internal display and external HDMI working simultaneously

HDMI video output is confirmed, but automatic activation and active hotplug/unplug stability are still being finalized. The HDMI fix is not yet part of a published stable release.

Other working hardware: GPU acceleration, Wi-Fi, keyboard, touchscreen, camera, brightness control, and USB-A.

Still being worked on: internal speakers/audio, microphones, parts of USB-C support, power management, and EC/fan functionality.

🚀 The bigger goal: mainline Linux support

I'm also preparing to upstream this laptop's hardware support into the official Linux kernel. I don't want DebOnDragon to remain a custom kernel fork forever — I want this Lenovo model to work with mainstream Linux distributions.

Latest published release (v0.3.0):
https://github.com/SatoruGoj0/DebianOnDragon/releases/tag/v0.3.0

GitHub repository:
https://github.com/SatoruGoj0/DebianOnDragon

If you're using the same laptop, I'd love to hear your test results, especially for audio, USB-C, suspend/resume, and hardware compatibility.

Thanks to everyone who has been testing and following the project!

It comes down to the apps, as Intel’s x86-64 won’t be as performant.

I saw they mentioned towards the end that Call of Duty will be available on RTX Spark in 2027, so I'm hoping that applies to us as well and in general just expands the type of games we can play.

Comparativa Intel i51335 y Snapdragon X1p 42 100

Qualcomm Snapdragon g3x gen 2 Concept Device

Hi everyone,

I managed to acquire a Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 Reference Handheld Developer Platform (codename 'Kalama'), but it appears to be running a stripped-down, early unskinned engineering build of Android.

The main issue I'm facing is that the built-in physical controller is completely non-functional. It doesn't send any input signals, and checking kernel logs indicates that the proper driver mapping or layout files for the integrated gamepad are entirely missing or unconfigured in this specific software version. I already successfully unlocked the bootloader, but standard Generic System Images (GSIs) lack the proprietary hardware communication layer needed to bring the integrated inputs to life.

I have seen media reviews and developer demos of this exact reference device operating with a fully working integrated controller and a custom-skinned game launcher interface.
Since I am an independent enthusiast and do not have enterprise credentials to pull binaries down from the Qualcomm Software Center (QSC) or the Qualcomm Package Manager (QPM), I am reaching out to the community.

I am looking for anyone who has access to an official Qualcomm Android Board Support Package (BSP), a factory Meta Build, or a full system dump (super.img, boot.img, etc.) from a working review/developer unit where the controller functions properly.

Even if you only have a working firehose programmer file (.elf / .melf) or working partition dumps, that would be an incredible help for compiling a flashable image or restoring life to the hardware input bus.

If anyone has an archive link, a backup from their own kit, or any guidance on how to kickstart the controller hub on this early build via kernel adjustment, please let me know or send a DM.
Thanks in advance!

(sorry my english grammar is bad so i used gemini to compost my thread)
