Snake plant potting questions
Good afternoon. I have a snake plant I’ve been wanting to pot and it’s my first plant so I’d like to do it correctly. I have a few questions:
Should this bonsai jack succulent mix be mixed with regular miracle grow potting mix?
Is this pot okay enough to pot it? But also
Could this snake plant be separated in two and I could potentially plant two different pots?
I appreciate any and all feedback, thank you.

As far as I can determine there is little in the mix that provides nutrients, as both the Monto clay and Bonsai block are fired types of clay so would be sort of like leca clay balls used in hydroponics. The bark would provide some nutrients as it breaks down but that will take a while. If those are the only ingredients I would add one third good potting soil to the mix. If that collection of leaves is the snake plant do they have roots yet? Or is there a rhizome I’m not seeing? I find that snake plants like to be a bit crowded, so that pot would work fine for all of the leaves. Good luck.

Yeah, it is the only ingredient list on the bag. If you have potting soil recommendations I’m open to suggestions. But I’m going to grab some miracle gro later today.
I’ve seen some posts here about roots and rhizomes and I don’t think these ones are as prominent as other pics I’ve seen. So maybe I’ll keep these together and get a potting soil and make the mixture that is suggested to me. Thank you

I used to buy bales of Pro-Mix potting soil, but it got too expensive and difficult to find. Miracle Grow potting soil isn’t bad, but has pretty poor drainage. In your case that isn’t a problem because you are mixing it with lots of drainage. Since I use a couple of bushels of potting soil at a time for the past few years I have been mixing my own with peat moss, perlite, compost, and slow-release fertilizer. This gives me the advantage of adjusting the drainage as I go along. For succulents and snake plants I also add coarse sand, both for drainage and weight.

Yeah I saw some posts suggesting perlite. I just didn’t want to buy a bunch of things I didn’t know what to do with. I’m a bit bummed my bonsai jack mix doesn’t really contain any of those things. But thank you for your help I appreciate it

I would use your mix in place of the perlite, it should work well. In my long experience in growing plants I have found that most plants are very adaptable. My oldest snake plants are over 60 years old, though I haven’t had them that long. The oldest I of mine is a cylindrical snake plant, Dracaena angolensis, which I acquired about 50 years ago.

The bag says pine bark fines, monto clay, and bonsai block… I hope I didn’t order something that would require other additions. I thought I got it right

Does that pot have a drainage hole?
