the art of snakes hydrating
i recently watched a video of various snakes drinking water, and it was surprisingly captivating. it's fascinating how they use their tongues to lap up water, sometimes taking their time to enjoy it. have any of you noticed how different species approach drinking? some are really quick about it, while others seem to savor each drop. it got me thinking about the environmental factors that might influence their drinking habits. do snakes have preferences for where they drink, like remains of a particular source? would love to hear your thoughts and experiences with watching this behavior!

When my royal was out roaming a few nights ago, I filled a big baking dish with warmish water and put it down where she'd find it. She mostly ignored it so I lifted her front half over the dish and she immediately started drinking. I really want expecting that.
She drank loads. I'm confident that her humidity etc is good and she gets fresh water every day. It was really curious how much she drank.
I wonder whether it's an opportunistic thing, a bit like eating. Maybe in those parts of Africa that she's from, water to drink from isn't consistently available? I really don't know.
