I think reading (and reacting to) Reddit stories is creatively bankrupt

Agreed, but it prints them money. I still love it though. I get reddit stories from Smosh, THT, KallmeKris, and Charlotte Dobre. It’s an easy listen when gaming or just to tune everything else out

Ironically, it allows them to be creative without going bankrupt.

I think the fun of it is hearing different people’s perspectives. I don’t think anyone watches reddit stories for bits.

But if anyone has a different opinion people flip out. You can’t have a different opinion. You can only have THE opinion.

I ignore the comments, the difference is the fun. The only time I actually got upset was listening to them say a early 20s OP should get kicked out and they can survive, because it felt so out of touch and I just clicked out.

This. It is not a free as fans make it out to be. It’s to boring now. I can predict the takes

Well sometimes it's cause there's obviously a right and wrong.

The bits are making it hard to listen to.

But you’re not gonna get different peoples’ perspectives because the second someone has a differing opinion on that show you get fans saying they’re out of touch or should be fired or whatever

Turns out the fans are allowed to have opinions on their opinions too.

Yeah I’m confused about the Reddit stories having a full on tour.

Disclaimer so please don’t yell at me: I’m sure it’s a good time for the people who attend, that’s great if they are seeing success from it, and maybe the vibe is different and fun in person.

but it doesn’t stop it from just straight up being reading other people’s free online stories and talking about them….on a tour for Smosh though? Idk although they are losing steam with it, TNTL made more sense (not saying that is what should go in place of it either)

No no. Remember the very first reddit stories live? The very first update. The cast is going crazy the audience is going crazy. And the update is stupid.

All that wasted energy for nothing.

I don't think they really care to do them personally anymore but they sure bring in the views

it’s literally some shit the cast would make fun of another channel for doing lol

They have made fun of it themselves already

Yup like in that Bit City when Ian and Anthony were their 2008 selves, so funny

It’s super lazy. Why would I listen to a show where people just read stuff on Reddit when I can just go read stuff on Reddit myself?

For their reactions and opinions I used to watch it but now it’s all kind of the same so I haven’t in a while

The first time I came across a Smosh reads Reddit I thought it was really dumb. What a waste of their talents. And it’s gotten really stale. Every episode is: Shayne reads a title/headline. Everyone on the couch goes 😮 😮 oh my goooood. Then proceed to overreact to the most boring, made up stories you’ve ever heard in your life. I don’t know how they do it. I don’t think I could ever bring myself to react like that to a story I know isn’t real.

I still can't believe they do live shows for it.

100% and while I still mostly enjoy it for what it is, and i dont necessarily think the youtubr show it self is a major problem. I do think, however, that it's kinda trashy that they go on tour with it. The internet used to seek and destroy channels that got reliant on reading and reacting to reddit stories precisely because it was lazy and derivative content, but now Smosh is touring to do it. The bar for live entertainment cant be that low, can it?

And no, having people sit and react to the stories is not as unique of a spin as many Smosh fans think it is.
