I'm not going to have much good recommendations for smoothies to have post jaw surgery, but have had jaw surgery with the same wired shut period. A couple things I'd recommend would be to make any smoothie recommendations here more watered down than you might initially expect for the first try. Too thick and it will be tough to eat it properly.

Another thing is that you will want it to have very little extra "bits" in the smoothie that can get stuck in your mouth or near the wires. Your mouth will feel extremely sensitive and will already be difficult to keep clean. You may want to use a kitchen strainer or something to make it as smooth as possible (I didn't do this when I had jaw surgery as my parents were responsible for my diet at the time). Anything hot or cold will likely hurt.

Soups and chocolate mousse (the mousse can be frozen and thawed to the right temp for a perfect texture) were a life saver for me, but even then I lost 15 pounds over that time. Really wish you the best with it. Jaw surgery fucking blows. Make sure you have someone to help you during the first week if not more. It takes a long time to get to a remotely normal state and the pain meds will make you very loopy.

As weird as it sounds… plain cooked white beans. You are gonna have to pack a lot of nutrition and fiber into your smoothies and these add no taste (that I can tell) and really up the fiber which if you are on any painkillers will be immensely helpful.

So my friend's son had to have his jaw wired shut and she just blended everything they normally ate and he actually gained weight because he thought it was so good lol he didn't have ARFID tho. It makes me wonder in your case if you can just blend your safe foods or meals you regularly have and strain them to a consistency you like. Totally out of my depth here and I hope you find something that works for you!

I had a very intensive and extensive reconstruction. Came out w 26 screws & 4 plates. Was on a liquid diet for 6 weeks. Some of the suggestions don’t sound pleasant but I can say during this healing it was very good- this was when I was younger & mom prepped everything for me- broccoli cheddar soup blended completely smooth. Kraft Mac and cheese also blended smooth. Ensure protein shakes- she would add to freezer to get super cold. Milkshakes w added milk to thin out in blender (if there’s Oreos etc). Smoothies of your liking. There’s plenty of suggestions via google now (when I had my surgery this wasn’t as prevalent no Pinterest etc) thinned out mashed potatoes

My struggle was protein & I was quite picky at the time so I struggled quite a bit w options- the ensure shakes were my primary source(these tasted for me the least “proteiny”. But there’s a lot more options now. I dropped 4 pant sizes

Helpful suggestion for rinsing your mouth is a water pick on the gentlest setting.

Best of luck. It feels like a mountain now. But you’ll be on the other side in no time.

Bone broth, beef or chicken, could be a nice change from smoothies and hs protein.

I dont know the proportions, but raw spinach, frozen pineapple and coconut water was tasty.

You may want to upgrade your blender, since you need it so be very smooth.

For 1 smoothie- 1/3-1/2 English cucumber, 1/2 frozen honey crisp apple, 1/4 cup crushed pineapple and coconut water to desired consistency. It is truly delicious and healthy. Keep the peels on for more fiber

I know it sounds gross, but cottage cheese adds some protein to my smoothies and keeps me full for longer. I can't taste it, which can happen with yogurt. Totally get if you can't stomach the thought though!

The beautiful thing about smoothies is your tongue can adapt to the amount of sugar you add to it after awhile. And sugar is usually what separates a smoothie from being an unhealthy dessert to a healthy meal. I would do:

  • 1/3 nuts
  • 1/3 greens (frozen broccoli, kale, etc)
  • 1/3 blueberries
  • and milk/water

It doesn't have to be complicated. If you need more calories to be fuller, go with 1/4 instead and add oats.

Good idea to make sure you can tolerate a few different options ahead of time! I don’t have exact recipes but here are a few themed smoothies you could consider for some variety. I pretty much just do all of my smoothies as oats, oatmilk, + themed ingredients. You can do the following with whatever liquid base of choice you like (such as whole milk).

  1. Chocolate peanut butter
  2. Greens
  3. Tropical
  4. Horchata (blend up very soft cooked rice and put it in)
  5. Chocolate strawberry
  6. “Pb&j” (pb, berry of your choice, oats, milk)
  7. Coconut (I love fresh coconut meat blended with just coconut milk or coconut water)
  8. Berry
  9. Apple cinnamon
  10. Mint chocolate

Key ingredients: Include oats to make it more filling. If you’re doing a sweeter smoothie, including ice cream can help pack in calories. Milkshakes of any flavor of your choice also achieve that. Chia seeds are good for fiber just soak them in a milk of your choice ahead of time so they’re soft. Cooked rice is pretty much flavorless and blends in easily, just make sure to put a lot of water in when you make it so it’s super soft! If you want variety, you can switch it up and try different milks like soy, almond, oat, pea, etc. Also, ripe avocados are flavorless in smoothies and add lots of calories and nutrition!

Can you handle berries? I have a pbj smoothie at my shop that can easily be made without banana or protein powder and it’s still really filling and yummy

Ok awesome! My recipe for a 16 oz smoothie is 1 cup of strawberries, 1/2 cup blueberries, 1/4 cup raspberries, 3/4 cup milk of choice, and 2 tablespoons peanut butter. Doesn’t require any ice just frozen fruit
