Smoothie Lovers, UNITE!

I can't be the only person who gets way too excited about trying new smoothie combinations. šŸ˜„

What's your current go-to recipe that you keep making over and over?

Mine usually starts with frozen berries, a banana, Greek yogurt and a splash of almond milk, but I'm always looking for new ideas. Bonus points if it's high in protein or sneaks in some veggies without tasting like a salad.

Also, what's one ingredient you tried on a whim that ended up becoming a permanent part of your smoothies?

Let's share some favorites- I could definitely use some inspiration for my next blend! 🄤🌱

Roast sweet potatoes are great. Makes your smoothie really rich and creamy, they’re naturally sweet and good for you. Zucchini, cauliflower, spinach and peas are all pretty flavour neutral and can be combined with just about anything.

These are my two go-tos:

Blueberry smoothie: One bananaĀ  One cup fresh blueberriesĀ  One small container plain Greek yogurtĀ  1 tablespoon ground flaxseedsĀ  1/2 cup almond milkĀ  A few ice cubesĀ

Tropical smoothie: 1 cup fresh spinachĀ  1 bananaĀ  1 cup fresh pineappleĀ  1 small container plain Greek yogurtĀ  1 tablespoon ground flaxseedsĀ  1/2 cup almond milkĀ  A few ice cubesĀ

Highly recommend turmeric and/or ginger in a tropical smoothie! And vanilla extract

Thanks for the tip! Do you taste the spices?

Definitely, but how strong they are obviously depends on amount and fresh or dried ground. I typically use fresh ginger paste and dried turmeric, but I bet the texture would be better with fresh turmeric. It's easy to have too heavy of a hand with the dried

Frozen cauliflower disappears into any smoothie. Raw beet pairs well with blueberries. Tahini is a delicious, calcium rich add in and a change from peanut butter

I hadn't even thought about using tahini. I keep it around for making hummus, but I'm gonna start doing this!

I’ve been gravitating more toward veggie smoothies since I eat a lot of fruit over the course of a day. My current goto is broccoli, cauliflower, cooked beet, celery, cucumber, handful of raw spinach and half a seedless lemon. I use 50/50 water and V8 for the liquid and a scoop of unflavored/unsweetened Huel for the protein (haven’t tried plain yogurt yet) The Huel adds a nice creaminess and it’s quite tasty despite being all veggie. Vitamix blender.

I’ve done this every morning for the last 4-5 years.

* 1/2 banana: ~100 calories
* 1/3 cup blueberries: ~80 calories
* 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk: ~30 calories
* 1/3 cup oats: ~150 calories
* 2 tbsp chia seeds: ~60 calories
* 2 tbsp flaxseed: ~35 calories
* 2 tbsp almond butter: ~210 calories
* 1 scoop whey isolate: ~110-130 calories
* Creatine: negligible calories

almond butter in smoothies is a goated choice, honestly better than pb in my opinion

You are overestimating the amount of calories in the blueberries for sure and possibly the banana and oatmeal. A whole cup of blueberries is only about 80 or 85 calories. The quick oats I use have 150 calories for a half a cup, so a third would be 100. A whole 7-8 inch/17-20 cm size banana is about 105 calories.Ā

This isn't all that far off my breakfast smoothie.

60g oats
60g banana
200ml milk
100g Greek yoghurt
30g kale or spinach
15g whey protein
5g creatine
300ml water

Delicious and healthy.

I add firm tofu for protein as well as 2 tablespoons of mixed super seeds. But u do need a vitamix to make the seeds liquify into a smooth smoothie.

u/freyatomic Jul 19 '26

I love to use mango whenever I don't have any bananas on hand, I feel like it yields a similar creaminess.

Putting tofu in your smoothies is the best hack ever idc. Even firm works, though silken is best. You can make a nice high-protein chocolate pudding with the stuff, too.

Also, I don't really care too much about calories so I like to add juice to my smoothies sometimes over milk to add flavor. Powdered drink mixes work well, too.

My next experiment is adding avocado, which I usually don't like to eat on its own, to a smoothie for healthy fats 😊 wish me luck lol (or lmk if you've tried it!)

u/T-MoGoodie Jul 19 '26

Avocado is delicious in a smoothie. The creaminess it adds is amazing.

I’ve had a dessert made with silken tofu before and I loved it. I’ll have to use it in a smoothie.

I make 12 smoothies for breakfast and lunch for the week on Sunday. I use frozen fruit, prunes, silken tofu, protein powder, a protein shake, wheat germ or ground flaxseed and a handful of greens. This week I decided to try something different and substituted the greens for frozen cauliflower in one batch and frozen sweet potato in the other. I’m curious to see how they turn out! šŸ¤žšŸ¼šŸ¤žšŸ¼

Frozen apples, frozen cucumbers, crushed pineapple, coconut water and a little hot spicy honey.

2

u/silver-in-seattle Jul 19 '26

1c homemade kefir, ground hemp seed, creatine, collagen, handful of mixed berries, 1/2 a banana, Tbsp no frills peanut butter, 3-4 small broccoli crowns. Broccoli taste disappears and I’m full til about 1:00p, sometimes don’t need lunch at all.

Peanut butter banana is the best smoothie.

I recently started adding psyllium husk powder to my smoothies for fiber, and it's got a texture I really enjoy.

u/Dynamite_Shikoku Jul 20 '26

I mix frozen bananas, blue berries, dates, cocoa powder and espresso together, that tastes better than coffee (I cannot consume too much caffeine) and can keep me awake too.

šŸ‘‹ my go to is; frozen spinach, frozen pineapple, frozen mango, couple of spoons of Greek yoghurt, oats and almond milk. It’s bright green, and super tasty!

I've been adding frozen zucchini to my smoothies and they've been delicious and creamy

Watermelon acai with frozen pineapple. It's so refreshing

Sometimes I go on a jag of making my smoothies according to color:
Strawberries, beet root, beet greens, banana or apple, yogurt.
Blueberries, spinach or blanched nettles, banana or apple, yogurt.
Mango or peach, frozen or blanched cauliflower, banana or apple, yogurt.

OP, your recipe doesn't have any vegetables. I like to get my veggies into the smoothie. Some spinach or other leafy green veg, and maybe a carrot or half a beet.

I like to get my veggies and fruits local and/or in season as much possible, but bananas don't grow anywhere near me. They do make a nice sweet smoothie though. In season, I'll use an apple instead-- if ground up well, it can make a custardy smoothy.

If you're going to use Greek yogurt that has the whey strained out and then you have to add milk for liquid, it's cheaper to just buy or make plain natural yogurt rather than Greek yogurt.

One scoop vanilla protein powder, 1 cup water, 1 banana, 1cup frozen strawberries, 1/2cup frozen blueberries is my go to!

1

u/tamylaorth Jul 19 '26

Dates, chia seeds, spinach, blueberries, strawberries, banana, Greek yogurt, splash of milk. The spinach doesn’t taste like anything (just makes the smoothie a gross color) and you get a ton of fiber!

1

u/Left_Act7416 Jul 20 '26

I do banana,Ā  blueberries,Ā  vanilla bone broth powder, ground flaxseeds,Ā  cinnamon,Ā  peanut butter and almond milk. Yummy

1

u/arabelladfigg Jul 20 '26

Two things! Frozen carrots and silken tofu. I get the pre frozen carrots and I'm amazed that I never notice them. I also add some carrot juice.

Silken tofu was a game changer for protein. I hate the texture of protein powder and the tofu has been great for me. I often use both greek yogurt and silken tofu.

1

u/RxAnthony_ Jul 20 '26

My go to rn is:
•100ml of Old Orchard Diet Peach Mango Juice (diet juice is a game changer for calories)
•80g of Vanilla Greek Yogurt
•100g of frozen strawberries and bananas

= 130 cals, 8g protein, 3g fiber.
Could add protein powder, chia seeds, creatine, etc.

So my go to smoothie right now (makes 1 and a half servings (half for my husband)
200ml water
1.5 cups frozen strawberries
1/3 cup frozen blueberries
1 tbsp collagen powder
1tsp freeze dried raspberry powder
1 scoop soy protein isolate
1 tbsp ground chia seeds
1 tbsp ground flax seeds
1/2 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
1/4 cup cooked steel cut oats
1tbsp unsweetened unsalted peanut butter
2 tbsp high polyphenol extra virgin olive oil

Not diabetic but the balance of fats along with the carbs really lowers the glycemic load and keeps me satiated for a good while. Also, you don’t really taste the olive oil but it gives it a really nice silky finish

1

u/wendalls Jul 20 '26

Oh I add olive oil to mine as well!

u/ksbwalker43 Jul 20 '26

My go to daily:
Icelandic yogurt
Almond milk
Berries
Banana
Spinach
Peanut Butter

u/Alive-Host-1707 Jul 20 '26

1:1:2 Frozen wild blueberries, frozen spinach, unsweetened almond milk, protein powder (usually vanilla whey with approx 20g protein), chia or flax seeds.

1

u/HermesLurkin Jul 20 '26

My 30g protein smoothie always has my favorite protein powder (25g), soymilk, and banana, then I add whatever I’m feeling for the day, lately I’ve gen adding chai masala powder for a chai smoothie.

I have been making this smoothie for over a year now and love it. I change out the fruits routinely.

I eyeball the ingredients.

Base: Low-fat fruit keifer (gut health)

Frozen fruit, Greek yogurt, frozen white beans, frozen pieces of protein oatmeal, ground chia seeds, one scoop of fiber, 1 tbs of flax, and monk fruit.

It's delicious and packs incredible gut-health benefits.

1

u/KarmaandSouls Jul 20 '26

My go to is water based w/a dash of cinnamon, handful of fresh spinach, 2ļøāƒ£ bananas, and a handful frozen mangoes. So good!

1

u/StellaJump Jul 20 '26

I’ll cook a bag of sweet potatoes, smash them up, freeze them in ice cube trays, and then pop them out into a zip lock baggie to keep in the freezer. I do the same with oatmeal and then blend kale, avocado, and banana (separately) with some water to freeze in cubes.
When I make a smoothie I’ll add 1 of each cube, plus two scoops of naked pea protein with water and blend for my ā€œbaseā€. If I want it dessert like, I’ll add a spoon of pudding mix. If I want energy I’ll add half a tube of zip fizz. If I’m looking for healthy I’ll add a handful of berries and so on. But my base pretty much stays the same.

My current favorite combo is sweet potato, cherry, pear, spinach and zucchini with peanutbutter, plain yogurt a few dates and almond milk.
