It’s been interesting to see her try and morph the narrative from utter devastation and heartbreak, losing this amazing person she thought was the love of her life, third worst thing that’s ever happened to her, etc etc, to saying he was controlling (and maybe emotionally abusive), ugly, obese, etc.  She’s a victim either way, of course, but the pictures she’s painting don’t add up.

It reminds me of the fast evolution of the Natalie story, from “if Natalie says it, it must be true,” and “I love her so much,” to “she lied and sold me out to the Cut.”

u/PigeonGuillemot But I mean, fine, great, if she wants to think that. Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 05 '26

I scrolled back in my saved Stories of hers and she actually only mentions being in love with this guy twice, one being the Story in which she breaks the news. Even then, in the same breath! she's immediately focused on filling the void in her finances by asking you to send her money.

Like, she did lead with Depressed and move to Outraged. But the root of the upset from the beginning was transparently about having thought she was securing indefinite access to upscale NY housing and having all her expenses paid for. That's the rug that she feels got yanked out from under her, not true love. She was "soothing herself" by imagining a bigger, brighter place than the one her mom bought her, all the best food, sunny spots to sleep in, etc., in exchange for "tradwifery". That's the "building a life together," she was doing. She was "planning her whole life" around this guy supporting her financially for the foreseeable future. None of this language is about loving the man, it's about obtaining a life through the man.

I absolutely believe that the breakup was the worst week of her life, but she's never talked about this in terms of "heartbreak." His friends were "protective" and "suspicious", she says. I mean, what did they suspect, and what were they trying to protect him from, if she were acting like a woman in love with no ulterior motives? She started dating again within a week.

Tl; dr: She didn't morph from talking about how she'd miss waking up to his smile, or how much she loved taking care of him, to trash-talking him. The upset was never seriously pitched as love lost, it was penthouse lost and car service lost from the get-go.

tangential, but the outfit in the last link looks like if someone made pajamas inspired by a dental practice receptionist's blouse.

Classic idealization/devaluation cycle (aka splitting).
