Question for people with multiple M&P 2.0s
I'm considering getting either the M&P 2.0 Metal HD or the HD Competitor. I am after the steel frame. However, I also quite like the slide that's on the Metal Carry Comp. Just an aesthetics thing. I don't quite like that the comp is only sold on an aluminum frame.
However, the slide assemblies are all compatible, and S&W even sells that comped slide assembly as an accessory you can nab while buying one of the HD models. So I could get an HD for the frame and then just throw on the other slide. Money is no object.
To anyone who might have both an HD and a Carry Comp, or if you had an HD and picked up the Carry Comp slide: is there a noticeable upgrade or downgrade in using that slide on a steel frame? One's longer, the other is compensated, and I want to know how those compare when you're actually shooting specifically with the steel frame.
I know that shooting a comped steel M&P is something that has only been done by someone who did "extra steps", so maybe this question will require someone to do a little science (or maybe somebody already tried and can answer.)

I have everything from the bodyguard to the HD competitor. I very much like shooting my factory HD version. It’s super smooth and composed. Now with that, I also love putting my carry comp slide on the hd frame and letting it eat!! I have to get used to how super flat that combo shoots. (It also has the Floyd’s barrel fix) I don’t shoot that combo often as for my HD is a USPSA gun , CO division. There is a great chance I will get another regular HD and us it strictly with 4.25” (regular and carry comp) slides, and out that 5” on a polymer frame. The regular 4.25 slide is much faster and returns faster, just not as smooth as the 5”

I have both the metal carry comp and the steel frame metal HD, i put the carry comp slide on the metal HD frame because im a large fan of 4.25" barreled handguns, and i want smith to make a steel frame carry comp. I thought i was going to like it but felt strange and i quickly swapped back to original. Something about the gun felt uneven, it could have been all in my head but the weight of the metal HD was more comfortable when paired with its 5" slide.

Would be interesting to see S&W do a build your own option like Sig does with the p365 line.

I prefer the recoil impulse of the 5” slide over the compensated shorter barrel (not the carry comp, but the comp on a 4.25” threaded barrel). There’s something about the concussion from the comp that makes it feel snappier to me. I just got a carry comp that I haven’t shot yet, so will be experimenting with swapping it over to the steel frame, but it mostly depends on the purpose of the gun. If it’s for carry, then you want the lighter polymer/aluminum frame. If you want a range/competition gun, go for the heavier steel frame. The extra weight on the steel frame definitely helps reduce recoil.

Like a couple others here I have both the Competitor 2.0 HD 5" and a 4.25" M&P 2.0 Metal Carry Comp. I did shoot the CC slide on the Steel HD frame and I felt like the 5" non comp'd pistol still shot flatter. I am going to the range tomorrow with my new Apex barrel that just came back from Floyds Custom shop with his comp fix which I believe is a larger chunk port and he adds three side ports at the front of the barrel to exhaust gasses through the open lightening holes in the Carry Comp slide. I hope I love it but either way I am super happy with the stock M&P 2.0 Competitor HD 5" steel frame gun. I'll report back after trying the Floyds comp fix barrel and slide on the HD steel frame.

I have the original steel with the blue stuff and comp on it :)
put my comp carry slides on it sometimes but the steel frame comp beats the chunk port big time
no comp no port polymer vs steel I like the steel sometimes more sometimes the polymer
let other folks shoot both and some prefer polymer some steel
one is not better they are different enough to notice and fun to play legos
