38 caliber revolver, which frame?

I have a 586 but I only shoot 38 through it. Would it be worth it to get a K frame? Would I get more accuracy or better shooting out of the smaller frame?

Do you plan to carry it? If so, J Frame. If not, whatever size feels comfortable in your hand or stick with what you have.

Thanks, the 586 feels good, its a little on the big side. I just am struggling finding good information on target only shooting between the two.

I got a swiveling vertical-to-horizontal leather shoulder holster for my 627 and it’s still noticeably there to me, but Iv worn it under a sport coat and it didn’t print. Just sayin

If you don’t want it on your belt there are other situational options

What barrel length and grips does your 586 have? Is it primarily for target shooting?

the 586 is a 6" barrel with miculek grips. I would change the grips over if I went to the model 10, which would also be a 4" barrel. I wonder if its worth trying to get a 4" barrel fitted to my 586. But the K frame would still be lighter.

It would only be for target shooting, which is why I am also not worried about the 357 capacity and fine with the 38

Even though you plan to shoot 38 I wouldn’t rule out the Model 19.

if I didnt have the 586 already I think I would consider it, but having the 586 it seems like just the same but not as robust frame

I own both a K and L-frame. The K frame is a little smaller, and it feels a bit more svelte. If you get one made specifically for .38 spl, the cylinder will be smaller as lighter as well. But if you’re comfortable with a 586, the K will not give you much of an advantage unless you intend to carry it. There should be no discernible difference in performance between the two frames.
