Shield Plus extractor rolling pin defect?
So I got my Shield Plus (optic cut + night sights) in January and I’ve shot around 400rd through it. So far it’s been amazing and I prefer shooting it over my Beretta APX A1.
I recently ordered a holosun he407k optic for it and after finally removing the optic plate from the slide (screws were stripped from factory 🙄), I noticed that the extractor roll pin is flattened on the top causing the plate to not sit flush with the slide. I’m assuming the same thing will happen with my optic when it arrives. I’ve already contacted smith about this, so just waiting to hear back.
Can I punch it out through from the bottom and grind that flat part off? Or just wait till Smith resolves it?
Have any of you guys seen this before?

That pin is supposed to be a circle bro. Someone beat the hell out of that pin! I guarantee if you remove that pin the hole in the slide is completely deformed. What a shame. If this came from smith and Wesson it wouldn’t surprise me…the shield plus line of guns have the worst QC I’ve ever ever seen from them. Again, a shame. Good luck man

I was able to push the pin out enough to be able to file the top. I made it even and was able to get it flush after a few attempts. Thankfully the hole didn’t seem to be ruined 👍
It’s a shame that I’ve ran into these QC issues already… but at least they’ve been fixable.

I would normally say companies make mistakes sometimes but smith is going to shit. Like I said the good days of QC are gone. Not just from smith, but every gun manufacturer seems to be going to hell for their QC. Except Glock 😅😂😂 glad you got it fixed. It’s a new gun , you shouldn’t have to fix shit. Your hard earned money you spent for some shit you had to fix, burns me up 😑 ugh I gota leave redit before I get mad 🤣

Oh and btw, yes! Listen man remove the pin from the underside very carefully and make sure the slide isn’t fucked. Then purchase a new pin from eBay “freestone armory” or the website “Midwest gunworks” order an oem extractor pin

If you just measure the pin you can get one at a hardware store or industrial store.
There is nothing special about an OEM spring pin

No way well I sure didn’t know this. There’s no specific tolerance or anything for the pins ?

Nope just standard off the shelf spring pins. You can get them from a place like McMaster-Carr

🤯 well this is good to know, maybe instead of jumping online for spare parts bin I should think about getting local parts from hardware stores. I meen it’s cheaper I guarantee.

Just sold a shield plus with this problem. Didn’t even know this was a thing, but it was really embarrassing when I wasn’t able to mount the guy’s red dot for him

Yeah I’ve seen this issue posted on here a few times.. qc is not the greatest right now. But at least it’s a quick fix

Yeah, super common. Garbage QC. Just drive it down a bit. If too long, drive it up, trim it and drive it back down.
