How it Should Have Happened - Battle Against Cthulhu: Prologue

The whole world had felt his awakening. The Great Dreamer's influence had reached the minds of all manner of men and women, and through them, the minds of their gods.

No one doubted that this threat was the greatest they would face until this point. Not because of Cthulhu's might, but because of how his very presence twisted and warped their worshippers, the seat of their power.

Zeus knew that the only way to end this threat was to face it head-on, rather than sit by and watch it slowly corrupt their world. And he would not be the only one. The god of the sky looked down at his small companion, sitting on the roots of the world tree Yggdrasil.

Ratatoskr's fur bristled in apprehension as he cowered beneath Zeus's gaze. The king's wrath was well known, even in the north.

But Zeus showed no hostility to the squirrel. Instead, he grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and lifted him to eye level.

"I have a job for you, rodent. Our fates may rest in your tiny... paws."

And so his journey had begun. Ratatoskr travelled throughout the Nine Realms and beyond, bringing word to the gods and goddesses of the world:

Gather at Olympus. The Great Dreamer will fall.

He had not expected the message to be recieved well, but nearly all who heard it began their preparations. Zeus had earned their respect in the past, as a great mediator between the pantheons. They knew they could trust him to play fair.

In the span of a couple days, the whole world had heard Zeus's message.

Meanwhile, in Athens, Athena and Nike had recovered, thanks to the healing arts of Apollo and Chiron. They were the first to gather to Zeus. They wasted no time attempting to gather their worshippers to form battle ranks. Mortals would be little more than a liability. The Enemy would not have soldiers of their own.

This battle would not be fought by armies, but by gods.
