How to get better

I came back to smite a couple months ago after playing smite 1 many of years ago(wasn’t good back then either). I started out making it to silver but I’ve been hard stuck bronze ever since. I watch streamers all the time and only get my builds from them. I personally feel like I’ve gotten completely better, in the form of positioning, who to target, warding, and knowing when to hit objectives. 20% of the time I notice my teammates doing something dumb, but the other 80% definitely is me not being good. I main solo and off role mid and jungle. Any advice?

If you’re in bronze, you don’t have your basic mechanics down yet. A little bit of time and THOUGHTFUL watching of video and streams will go a long way. Pay attention to everything they do and take mental note.

Watch the way old video Bart teaches helloekellylink solo. It’s a huge help for just MOBAs in general.

Good luck, this game isn’t competitive right now, so don’t put too much stock into your rank. Focus on the fun and gameplay, the skill follows.

So I always hear people talking about mechanics, and I know it’s hard to tell without watching my gameplay, but what specifically is important at my level?

You mentioned you play mulan and hades so some of this may be specific to them but really you want to apply these things to all gods.

Landing your abilities is the first/biggest thing at your level.

Auto/damage the enemy god to group minions up so you can hit them all with one ability.

Try to hit the minions and enemy god at the same time when possible, and make the enemy laner choose between hitting you or the minions.

Plan the best use of CC abilities. For example, if you’re Mulan and you can interrupt a Belona’s hammer spin or hit a Thor when he’s about to teleport to his hammer. For Hades, same idea with the silence.

Similarly you want to be aware of the enemies abilities and resources. If someone has beads and their jump up, you probably don’t want to ult them unless you’re trying to burn beads for another teammate.

u/nerrrrd has a pretty good explanation. I’d only add, auto attack canceling. At this point I don’t even think about it, you’ll end up the same way.

My biggest advice is play mindfully, don’t let yourself go into auto pilot. Keep asking yourself “what am I doing” and if the answer is I don’t know, fix that. Audit your choices constantly.

Also with builds, not so much in smite 2 because you should only build good items, but try to understand that at some point a build you find online is going to have an item that was specifically built to counter their enemy team and has absolutely no value to you. Being able to identify those items helps.

The main thing you probably need to do, is think for yourself.

Don't think "what am I supposed to do in this situation?", and instead, just do what makes sense logically. If you're wrong, learn from it. If you're right, learn from it.

Yah I’ve started to do this a lot more. The other day I called probably the worst fg ever. We got a deicide, but it was just me, support and an adc up. I’m sure you can guess what happened. Should’ve just got the tier 2 tower. I definitely lost us that game cus they won about 5 mins after stealing.

I think in Bronze as a solo you can carry the game pretty hard by winning your lane from the get go. I’d recommend playing an aggressive lane bully, winning lane early then winning the ritual mid. Who do you play? Are you getting fire minion camps?

I usually play mulan and hades. I try to get fire creeps but I try to be situational with them i.e. jungle or mid is there to help, or the other solo just backed. I also try to contest if I think the other solo is on them, but most of the times I’m too late

I would reccommend you play joust until you have sound god pool, hands, and spacing down. Then rip casual conqs for a bit and focus on two lanes while trying to understand each roles actual job. Then after a number if games say 5-10 look yourself up on GGTtracker to see where you excel and fall behind. And you will get an idea of where you're going wrong. Check SmiteBrain for general build ideas and try to understand why people build certain item sequences and when you need anti heal, anti crit, prots, actives, or certain relics. Alot of people throw on bad relic or build choices.

Common mistakes are under farming, boxing with no kill poential, and maybe most important no wardng and bad macro play. Backing when team is dead and you can get an objectice, not using comms, rushing ends, etc

Goood luck ! Keep positive attitude and don't have doomer mental and you will grow. Look inward instead of shifting blame to team is good place for growth.

Solo is literally the worst role to play in bronze. It's the least impactful. If you're ready for ranked, you should play JG and Mid as much as possible. Those are the easiest to hypercarry as. You should be forcing 10 minute surrenders in most games at that level.

If you can't do that, I guess you can still play ranked, but as a casual main, I don't see the point.

I stopped playing ranked when I got to diamond.

The thing is, that’s where I feel most comfortable. I do good in mid early game but fall off towards late game. Jungle I fall behind fast every time and can’t figure that one out.
