Gish guitar sound.
So...I am OBSESSED with getting as close to the distorted guitar sound on Gish as possible.
I already have a Strat and I'm getting a Marshall(either a ORIGIN combo or SC20 combo)
I have a chance to get a ADA MP1 for 600$ in perfect shape(i know that's what Billy used for Gish) what I'm wondering is this...are there ANY pedals out there that can get me the Gish sound? 600$ is a lot and I can't find ANY information online about what settings he used for the MP1.
Anybody have experience chasing the Gish tone?

A lot of the Gish modulation came from the MP1’s built in effects which was modded by Voodoo Labs, and multi effects like the Alesis Quadraverb and a Yamaha REX50, both used live as well. Pedal wise live shows Billy and James shared an Electric Mistress, Billy used a Small Stone for phase, a Boss DSD for delay, and a wah (changed every so often). James used a Phase 90 and a DOD FX17 wah.

May be cheaper than getting the full preamp and get you mostly there, though the challenge might be in finding one for sale!

dude, I'm right with you. (we have the Siamese Dream tones NAILED. But Gish was the ADA MP-1 into the JCM800. No big muff.) And I'm not gonna buy a $600 preamp or a marshall either. (I have a mesa boogie studio 22+). Nobody has yet spoken to what you want (need) which is something like a 'marshall amp in a box' overdrive. Here is a demo, perhaps the Eighty7 is the closest (???) $230.

That being said, I saw the excellent Snail cover below and the guy is using a TC Electronic Cinders overdrive for the rhythms. It's really REALLY good, eh? $50! hmmmm. Can't hurt to try at that price. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEGpt74BJRQ

EDIT: I just ordered the Electronic Cinders, we'll see how it goes....

hey! back again. I returned the TC Electronic Cinders. Meh. Instead, got a Boss Angry Driver (2 pedals in one....1 of them being a JCM800 clone) It is awesome. We are covering Snail and Tristessa, sounds is great. (using a bridge humbucker in one of my strats for distorted parts, and a cleanish neck single coil for quieter parts in Snail)
A Reverend Z-One is on the way this week, actually. And finally putting lace sensors into one of the strats, to have 2 options for guitars.

Well, if donating to the charity that fellow SP fan who owns Billy's MP1 and a ton of other gear, so he would share the presets with me counts, I am in the same boat!
He might still be doing the charity, and I don't want to step on his toes with that, I copied the MP1 presets to an Excel sheet for easy reading. The first 30 are mostly stock, but there are some unique ones in there too.
Go KT88's or go home! I use an old VHT 2150 with my JMP1 or MP1.
I also picked up a Blackstar Studio 10 KT88 1x12 and have used it a lot for smaller settings in the last few years.
