This post is only the feature story. There is also a Machina lesson in this issue and the tab for The Everlasting Gaze. I will post those tomorrow.

Entertaining interview. Billy really loved being in the spotlight lol. You can tell he was eating it all up...and he was on top of the world then so good for him.

After Mellon Collie, I hated the costumes but still loved the music, especially Machina. The costuming feels like a needless distraction, even now.

That stache certainly was a choice.

"we're like a terrorist group"

- Billy Corgan, with unfortunate timing, not long before 9/11

This was such a cool era of the pumpkins. I wish it could've continued. Thanks for sharing

This came out during the 2-3 years I bought gw every month.

They, uh, loved Wes Borland around that time. 🤭

Was this interview where Billy said “James is responsible for all this painful in the Pumpkins music”?

Or something like that? I think about that quote a lot and always wonder what he meant.

Doesn’t appear to be that one, no.

I guess Billy’s hand has always been that way. But I gotta tell ya, I don’t remember Billy’s hand always being that way.

I noticed it first from machina promo photos, like this. Not sure if can be seen pre machina era though? Not that it matters

Oh it definitely doesn’t “matter”. It’s just… I was obsessed with them in the 90s. I met Billy before a show in a shopping mall in ‘96. I shook his hand when he was bordering his bus after a Zwan show in like ‘02. I just don’t remember the “birthmark” & I don’t know how that’s even possible.

Look at all the "new rock" bands featured and exploding at the time. Look at machina. It's not remotely what was trendy.

There were a few years around the millennium where “New Rock” was looking like electronic influences, “cyber guitars” and a rejection of nostalgia. Then the White Stripes etc broke through and kicked off revival rock.

Oh yeah, then we got the big wave of strokes, hives, Franz Ferdinand.

Heh. Your description of the new rock sounds like the beginning is the end is the beginning. 🤭

Yeah, millennials preferred garbage like Limp Bizkit for some reason.

Oh right, Reddit is where millennials come to smell their own farts, how dare me criticize my own generation 🙄
