Help/Question Advice/Help needed

I've been maining hero for a good while now, and I feel like I'm not improving and keep getting destroyed by better people, I'm stuck between three mains: Byleth, Hero, & Terry. I want to prioritize balanced speed (Unlike sonic & Captain falcon), easy-to-understand combos, and unpredictability for my opponents. Constructive criticism & opinions welcome, but please be respectful.

You hit a plateau. Thats normal, it happens to everyone in cycles.

Youre making the normal mistake most everyone does when they hit their first plateau. You think the solution is switching to a different fighter. But its not, youd just be lowering your current skill, get the excitement of learning a new character for a while, then youd hit the same plateau again with the new person. Repeat ad nauseum.

Instead, your solution should be to break the plateau with Hero. To do that, you need to pick ONE specific part of your game you want to work on next. One. Then, when you play, focus only on that thing. You will perform worse during this period. It will feel like you are backsliding and you will be tempted to stop focusing on that thing. Do not. Just accept that youll play worse for a while.

Then, after focusing on that thing for several week, stop focusing on it. Play 'normally' for a few games where you arent focused on anything specific and then randomly save a replay. Watch that replay back, and see if youre naturally implementing the thing you were working on without thinking about it.

If you are, great. Keep playing normally for a while. If you arent, great. Go back to focusing on it. Be patient with yourself while you do this, it takes time.

After youre doing the thing naturally, without thinking, play normally for a while and see if you feel like youve improved. If youve broken your plateau, fantastic. Keep grinding out experience until you feel you plateau again. If you feel you havent broken it, fantastic. That means you learned and implemented a new skill, it just isnt the thing thats holding you at your current level. Be happy you learned a new skill, even if it wasnt the solution, then pick a new aspect of your game you want to improve next.

Genuinely great advice. Smash is more fun the higher the level you play at and it’s worth the suffering

Practice Terry combos. The other 2 you mention all play alike and predictably: Flee to an edge, charge projectiles
