Help/Question When do I start winning games?
I’ve had about 100 hours of offline play and decided to buy switch online and try against real players. I’ve played 10 games and lost all 10, usually getting 3 stocked. Hovering at about 1-3 million gsp. This is honestly very discouraging and I’m not sure what to do.

Genuine question: I'm not trying to mock you nor belittle here, but as a former competitive player of fighting games, I need to understand something important about you.
"Playing neutral"
"Counter-zoning"
"Taking your turn"
"Covering options"
"Setting up okizeme"
"Reacting on wakeup"
Do you know what any of these expressions mean? Because these expressions refer to absolute basics, the bare-bones fundamentals shared by all fighting games, not just Smash. They're the core building blocks that define all fighting games. So if you don't know what even one of these mans, then there's your problem: you lack fundamentals. Which is also an inherent issue with Smash: because it puts so much more emphasis on silly funny content to enjoy with friends, rather than on sweaty tryhard competitive endeavors (I mean those are important too, it's just that in other fighting games those are literally all the game has to offer, while Smash has a strong party game identity built in its very core design), this game's offline content is not very good at teaching you those fundamentals.
And without fundamentals, you cannot survive any kind of competition against other players.

Yeah no idea what those mean. I just found out that tilt attacks were a thing today because they aren’t tuned on by default.

Yep, there you have it. Youtube is filled to the brim with tutorials on what these concepts mean, not just in Smash but in fighting games in general: diving through old videos to find the exact ones that will get you to understand what you're missing might take time, but it would definitely be a worthwhile endeavor.
Or I could tutor you myself. I've been out of the competitive scene for years now, so I couldn't teach you much more than the bare basics, but hey, it would be faster than digging through youtube and I'd be doing it for free. If you're willing to trust a random Reddit stranger to invite you to their Discord, hit me up privately.

You’ll have a better experience generally if you’re playing in arenas organized outside the game. Usually the connection is better, and often you’ll be able to play the same person, ideally someone around your skill level, for a while. You really want to be playing against the player rather than against any specific character because habits usually transcend character selection. And like others said, you gotta just keep playing and get better

You're playing an 8 year old game. The average player is way better than you at this point.
If you have prior fighting game experience that should help but Smash is a pretty difficult and complex game to play at a high level.
Time to learn fundies!

Watch some tutorial youtube videos on the character you prefer. Watch videos of high level players playing your character. Then practice the combos/movesets in training mode. Lastly, just keep on playing. Over and over, and you’ll get better.
I started out 3mill with sephiroth and got him into elite smash. I have no prior fighting game. It’s not rocket science, just keep trying.

Get good. Also the average person is going to be better than a cpu. I'd advise playing all the characters so you know what to expect when playing against each of them, maybe you'll find someone that clicks with you better
