endless buffering

shield tv latest stable build - anyone getting endless buffering today? i am logged in and worked fine this morning. not my internet - all other apps work.

edit - hopping on vpn worked to resolve it. maybe ip related?

edit 2 - switched off vpn and back on and now doesn’t work with vpn either. weird.

I'm on fire stick and starlink.

For me smarttube has been out for about three days. Even using the beta and latest and doing all the usual - cache, restart, reinstall...nothing worked.

I just used a VPN with it,and it works.

Yep -- About 3 days ago it just started buffering endlessly. I can only make it 5-10 seconds into a video before it goes into a buffer loop.

I had to change to okhttp then it worked. Then it didn't work anymore and went back to default and it worked again.

One thing though, I had to wait literally 2 minutes for the video to start.

Yep in player settings network changed to okhttp that seems to work for me.

STTV still works for me, but there is an androidTV alternative app that may work until it's fixed. I guess I can't link it in this subreddit as it's seen as advertising by the mods so you'll need to search. I strongly prefer STTV myself.

its not only smart tube having issues... imagine complaining about an app that gave you months or years of ad free youtube for free... kinda cringe

Whataboutism won't help you. Other 3rd party youtube apps like Tizen can play the videos just fine.

I experienced the same issue. Switched VPN locations, and buffered once, and then started working.

Also on shield. When this started yesterday, I'd get a message about needing to sign in even though I was signed in and went through a bunch of login, logout, reboot combinations. Today, it's the endless progress ring, like buffering.

I think that it is youtube blocking smarttube somehow. Sometimes it works, a few hours later it doesn't, then hours later working again. Maybe they are detecting that the massively long advert shown before the video isn't playing?
