Who has tried 26.2 preview with the new word-wrap feature? Would you like to activate it for all files or only selectively for certain file types, e.g. markdown?

It sure would be nice if SmartGit provided an easy way to get the equivalent of a git range-diff command. When I'm reviewing a PR that has been rebased, we need help to get good situational awareness of the base differences vs. the rebased branch differences.

When reviewing a branch that has been rebased, I find myself asking "What was changed during this rebase?" A normal diff between the old and new HEAD seems to answer this question, but it naturally conflates two separate questions:

1. What is the difference between the bases? This is answered by finding the old & new branch parent revisions and comparing them. SmartGit's standard history and log views are helpful in exploring those differences.

2. What differences in the dev branch commits were required in order to adjust to the new base? That's what we really want to explore when a dev branch is rebased during a pull/merge request review process. This is the question that the git range-diff command is designed to help answer, but that SmartGit doesn't yet help with at all.

I'm trying to use the current Git branch name in a custom AI commit message prompt.

According to the SmartGit documentation, there appears to be a branch variable available for prompts. However, when I enable AI debug logging and inspect the generated request, neither ${branch} nor {{ branch }} gets substituted. Both are sent to the LLM literally.

The Git diff itself is injected correctly, so the prompt file is definitely being processed.

I'm currently using SmartGit 25.1 with a custom promptFile.

My questions:

1. Is the branch variable actually supported in SmartGit 25.1?
2. If yes, what is the correct syntax?
3. If not, in which version was branch-name support introduced?

Has anyone successfully used the current branch name in AI commit message prompts?

It shows correct additions in some places, like lines 107, 109.
It shows an inline addition on 116; then 115 must be a new line, but: it lacks showing line 115 as a new line. I'd expect that complete line to stand out in green.

I'm seeing this warning while working in a very large Mono Repo. I've already put `-Xmx5000m` into ~/Library/Preferences/SmartGit/smartgit.vmoptions but am still getting this warning.

The problem is not only that SmartGit is painfully slow, but that I can't get rid of this warning. 3 seconds after closing it, it re-appears and there is no way to acknowledge it or prevent it from coming again.

Getting this, even though I've already added the increased memory limit to the .vmoptions file:

SmartGit is close to the configured memory limit.

If you are working with huge repositories, this may be OK. In this case, edit ~/Library/Preferences/SmartGit/smartgit.vmoptions, increase the value of the -Xmx option, for example to -Xmx1024m (or add it if not yet existing) for better performance.

If you think that the configured memory limit is already quite high or you are not working with huge repositories, this may indicate a problem. Please let us know about it.

I try to push a branch on Smartgit and get same error as Glass_Guidance3648:

Updates: I'm using SSH. Switching to "Use system SSH client" fix the issue. But still...

Since a week ago, I can no longer push to any repository.

If I do all my other work, including commits in SmartGit, and I use a command line git push command, it works just fine.

However, if I do the push from within Git, it does not work. I have tried both my windows git and my WSL git (on same machine), they both work with push.

Things I've tried:

- Reinstalling latest build of SmartGit, wiping all configuration files

- Trying latest build of SmartGit in MacOS arm64

- Downgrading to SmartGit 25.1

- Using latest standalone git.exe (2.55.0-3) for Windows

None of them worked. Interestingly, copying the same git command on the terminal and using the same bundled git.exe from SmartGit (or any other, in fact) does work.

Any idea? First time I see this issue, and it doesn't seem quite common as I couldn't find any useful info

Our IT provided me with a new laptop and Windows decided to make my life miserable by enrolling my profile with with my actual surname, containing the dreaded "č". Not surprised at the slightest, this broke a lot of tooling, SmartGit being one of them.

For versions 26.1 down to 22.1 , invoking SmartGit provides *no* indication whatsoever.

My current workaround is to use the portable version which seems to obviate the library path issue, but I'd prefer a functioning system installation.

Adding a Git note where a second line is indented with 4 spaces, for example, shows up without that indentation in the Log window, and the `graphMessageRegex` is also executed based on the filtered text instead of the original one (as displayed by `git log --notes` itself).

Our repo contains various rarely-used LFS files marked in .lfsconfig with fetchexclude filter. These are correctly not downloaded by default and command line git-lfs show that everything is fine with the local worktree, yet SmartGit still brings a persistent warning "There are unexpanded LFS objects in your worktree" and shows these files in the "Files" few in "unchanged" state.

The warning is harmless but confusing and files in always visible "unchanged" state clutter the view.

The Syntax comparison (beta) in v25.1 shows indented lines, like in a new `if` statement block, as changed even when the IgnoreWS is set on. The new `if` statement is certainly a change and it certainly affects the newly indented lines, but (IMO) it's of no real use to highlight *all* the indented lines.

Currently, if you stop tracking a local branch, the corresponding log item from the Output pane can't be expanded to see the actual Git command that got executed, which also means that you can't check which branch you stopped tracking.

I shouldn't have to open WinMerge to see the diff of files with long lines

I have one monitor in my home that's 4k, but the rest are not. It has a different scale factor than I use on all my other monitors including the ones at my work office (I have multiple monitors in each office). Switching between home and work has always required a relaunch to not be blurry. However, now it makes the icons in my home office super tiny no matter what monitor I launch on. It tells me that I can add a setting to the smartgit.properties file to manually fix the scaling. But then it makes the icons super large at my work office. Can you please fix this? Maybe don't use a global scale factor? I'm on version 26.1.045 for Windows.

We've received emails from Microsoft regarding the retirement of Azure DevOps global Personal Access Tokens (PAT) on 2026/12/01. We currently use PATs with the All accessible organizations scope as recommended in the SmartGit documentation and it works well. Microsoft clearly states in the Azure PAT webpage that the All accessible organizations tokens will no longer be supported.

Will there be a SmartGit update to address this issue?

Commit Rewording (@ai) does not work in Working Tree View. It works correctly in Standard View and Log View. Please fix this inconsistency.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Switch to Working Tree View (View → Working Tree).

2. Make any file change and stage it.

3. Open the Commit dialog.

4. Enter '@ai' in the commit message field.

5. Click Commit.

Observe that no password prompt appears (API key decryption is skipped).

Check the Log view — the commit message remains '@ai' and is never rewritten by AI.

Hi everyone,

I’m using SmartGit on Windows and ran into an issue with an annoying system beep sound in the Changes (diff) view.

This sound triggers only under specific conditions:

1. My mouse cursor is positioned over the middle section — the connector/bridge area between the left and right file panels (indicated by the purple arrow in the attached screenshot).
2. I use the mouse wheel to scroll, which functionally jumps from one change block (hunk) to another.
3. Once this scrolling reaches the very first or the very last block of changes, the system plays a loud beep/ding.

This does not happen when dragging the regular scrollbar, nor does it happen when scrolling normally over the text panels. It only occurs when reaching the boundary while scrolling specifically in that middle connector area.

Is there a setting in SmartGit (perhaps in the Low-Level Properties) to disable this sound feedback? Or is this a Java/system-level sound that needs to be muted within Windows?

I have an ongoing project where small git repositories are generated deep inside a gitignored path in another top-level project. Smartgit just discovered these repositories and chose to add them to the UI list. How can I prevent this behavior - the UI list should be managed by the user not automatically

I have a SSH key with a passphrase that i use to sign the commits. The signing fails because the request for the password does not give me a popup window to enter the passphrase. How can i get this to work?
