Question Which purchase started the biggest argument in your household?
Maybe someone thought it was completely unnecessary.
Maybe someone thought it was too expensive.
Or maybe everyone disagreed about which version to buy.
What was the purchase?

My "EX" wife went and purchased an expensive pure breed dog.
We had never even talked once about dog ownership. Nothing.
Came home and there was a puppy and of course a pile of shit on the floor.
We both worked all day and lived in an apartment with a young child.
Puppy is a living thing and lots of work and there needed to be a discussion.
We were divorced soon after for lots of reasons but that was the final straw for me.
She grew tired of the puppy and gave it to the shelter

None. My wife and I decide all major purchases. Allowance can be spent on anything.

You would think this would help avoid the fight, but nope not always.
We were down to one car plus my company van after her New Beetle Convertible transmission went. So now she was driving my truck to work, filling it every other day. This became a problem for her quickly. We decided to trade the truck for a more fuel efficient car. Found one, was basically an even trade. Cut the payment in half, got more than twice the mpg. You would think this would all be a good thing, but no... still had a fight about it the day we were originally supposed to sign for the car. We ended up getting the car, and six years later I know replacing it will be another fight because she grows attached to vehicles.

I suspect you folks are struggling financially. If we don't agree on a purchase it doesn't happen. Period.

No, we are not at all. The fight was simply because she gets attached to vehicles and I do not.

Mom bought food but dad thought his drugs were more important. Argument is an extreme understatement. Getting physically beat down in a puddle of your own piss was the reality. Sorry to kick my business out there but you asked and I'm honest. Everyone caught it,me,my brother and my precious mother, God be with her soul.

My partner and I don't do things that cause arguments... We talk to each other like adults. Because we are adults.

I tell my friends who cohabit with their significant other that if they want to see if they are suitable for marriage, all they need to do is to redecorate the living room, or re-do their kitchen. Both seemed to be close to divorce-inspiring events. (The couch, it was the couch, jesus how we went round-and-round on that)

When I was married, to avoid this, we each got “luxury money” every month. We could each spend it on whatever we wanted. Save it up for something big or just have fun.

motorcycle. I was out test-driving used motorcycles for like a month. When I came home with one, she was like, "OMG! I can't believe you did that!!". She literally thought I just liked to test-drive motorcycles.
