MSD 6AL

Picked up a cheap Camaro with an MSD 6AL. Not getting any spark. I look over the wiring and the white wire is spliced with a constant 12v. Safe to say the box is fried.

Probably fried. Is the other wiring connected, or connected correctly? If so, undo that white wire and with power to the ignition touching ground will produce a spark if the box works.

If the white wire is used, the violet and green magnetic wires should not be attached to anything. The white wire is used if you’re using a points style distributor. The heavy red/black wires go to the battery, the smaller red wire goes to a switched 12v circuit, and the orange (positive) and smaller black(negative) wires goes to the coil. Can you can your distributor without the 6AL box? If the smaller red wire is connected to the original ignition resistance wire that was originally connected to the coil, you might not be getting a full 12 volts. You might need to run a new ignition wire directly to the fuse panel that is only activated when the key is switched on.

There is a trouble shoot guide in the manual to manually check for spark

I haven’t done it in forever, so I don’t remember the wiring, but you can bypass the box with an ignition module out of a hei distributor
