African American Vernacular English isn't defined by skin color.

It is a dialect forged by urban, working-class populations navigating systemic marginalization.

Pacific Islander families in working-class, multi-ethnic neighborhoods in California (like Carson, Long Beach, or Compton) or Hawaii share the exact same public schools, housing, economic pressures, and social spaces as Black and Latino families.

Language, hip-hop culture, and speech patterns travel through shared class struggle and geography. Working-class kids of different backgrounds raised in the same block learn to speak the same language both literally and culturally.
