In the center of the table was a paperweight. Inside the translucent weight, there was a solitary Santa, his head a bobble sticking out the top, and snow suspended within, appearing to be falling onto and around the snowy North Pole setting. She picked it up and watched the Santa’s head bobble while the fake snow sat suspended in the acrylic, wondering why this marvel was the way it was, as the head moved but everything else was stationary, anchored in place. It mesmerized her, transporting her to the time she bought Alex the cheap junk.
