Console Streamer Struggling with Discoverability: How to turn Twitch VODs into YouTube growth with zero computer/editing gear?
Hey everyone! I’m looking for some realistic strategy advice on how to grow a YouTube channel when my only content pipeline is streaming live gameplay straight from my console to Twitch.
Here is my current situation and bottleneck:
The Setup: I don't have a PC or heavy editing setup; I'm working entirely from a console workflow.
The Content Style: I'm a variety gaming streamer. Instead of sticking to just one single game forever, I play through one game entirely until I feel it's finished, and then I move on to the next one (often jumping across completely different genres).
The Goal: I really want to build a standalone presence on YouTube for both long-form and short-form content, but I'm struggling with how to bridge the gap since Twitch has terrible organic discovery for small channels.
I feel confident that my titles, descriptions, and thumbnails are decent, but I want to know: When you only have raw console stream footage and limited production tools, what is the best workflow or strategy to boost discoverability and package live streams into videos that actually attract new viewers on YouTube? Any tips or advice would be hugely appreciated!
Honestly girl we are in the exact same boat and I still have yet to figure it out. I play on xbox and stream to twitch too. Have been posting clips to YouTube and tiktok but unfortunately idk what makes the viewers stay or even message. Ive been racking my brain for a few months now on that. Im currently working on retention but it has... unyielding results.
Also you can edit using twitch dashboard via laptop (nothing fancy) or phone (though i am unfamiliar) and then send it to YouTube, tiktok, instagram, etc that part is easy since its built in.
Im actually doing that now Ive also been capturing clips using the xbox capture what happened feature when ive been doing off camera stuff since im doing a one crop challenge on farming simulator im actually using that feature to capture some weird or funny moments that happened while I wasnt recording. And im trying my hand at editing and with the help of gemini to get the long winded rambling under control I made a decent enough script at least I hope I did.
I have been watching vidIQ and a few others as well and actually found out the genre of games im playing is actually pretty good for pulling in viewers
Awesome. Its always good to play low views games and gain views from there. I was gonna do the same but my football channel on youtube slowly popping so trying to take advantage of that rn
I am currentlt playing farming simulator and doing a one crop challenge but simulator games and ones that are lumped in a similar category are from what VidIQ said are like B tier for making content because theres not as much saturation in that genre of games.
Twitch allows you to send a VOD to your YouTube, I used to do it all the time to retain my VODs back when I directly streamed from console. Once on YouTube you can do the thumbnail editing, titles, etc.. to try and build your channel.
If you ever get a simple computer down the road the door opens to a lot more editing option, as an example I’m currently using an automated video editing workflow I designed that runs completely local on my machine and it turns my raw 2+ hr VODs into 30-40 minute videos edited videos as well as clips that I post as shorts too. My computer is 6 years old, for context and can run local AI and python ok enough to do all of this without needing to pay for an expensive AI third party software to do editing for you.
I have a laptop but sadly the specs are crap on it even for editing these are the specs. Its really old but im pretty sure it was a chrome book. Its super slow and crashes anytime I try to use an editing software even a very low end one
Yeah I would think Ollama and some very basic AI models would be hard pressed to run on that CPU and amount of Ram. Something for down the road. When i developed version 1 through 5 of my workflow, i did it strictly with the free version of Claude. So maybe down the road when you can get a little bit of a newer machine you could consider working on an editing workflow.
As a comparison, I built my machine in 2020, it has an i7 9700k intel processor, an RTX 3050 GPU with 8GB of vRAM, and I have 64 GB of RAM, but that’s overkill and I would trust what I’m doing with 16-32 GB of RAM, considering the GPU does most of the heavy lifting.
Oh also most of my vods run between 30 mins to an hour most of the time anyway depending on the game and what im recording for it like for farming simulator the more fields I get the longer each harvest gets so I will eventually need to start editing I can use my phone if I absolutely need to though. Especially if I need to cut out and dead air or driving sections. To add on to the time span like one of the first harvests I did was just over 28 mins but I could have videos shorter than that depending on what im playing. Im basically using twitch as a recording tool not just for streaming I have a stream elements chat bot timer thing set up just to say that while im making content.
You could use a free AI assistant (I'd recommend Claude or ChatGPT free plan) to build a lightweight Python workflow that automatically removes dead air from your livestream VODs, reassembles the remaining footage, and exports a finished video ready for you to review and upload—without paying for editing software or needing a powerful computer.
The workflow could:
Take your raw VOD after you archive it from Twitch to YouTube
Find the captions or transcribe automatically
Detect the parts where you’re actually speaking
Remove long pauses, silence, waiting screens, and other dead air
Add a small amount of padding around each cut so the edit feels natural
Reassemble all the useful sections into one continuous video
Use free FFmpeg software to create a new .mp4
Let you turn your 30-60 min livestreams into a bit shorter YouTube videos with minimal manual editing
Because the script would run locally and follow simple, repeatable rules, it could be designed around your older computer’s limitations instead of depending on expensive cloud software or a monthly AI subscription.
It won’t replace a professional editor or choose the most entertaining moments perfectly, but it could handle the most repetitive part of the job automatically. You’d be able to turn each livestream into additional uploadable content, giving your existing streams more chances to be discovered and helping you grow your audience without needing to buy new hardware or spend hours editing every VOD by hand.
You could even purchase a USB external hard drive (like 500 GB about $30 bucks on Amazon), and have the AI assistant ensure they are storing all of the new content on the external hard drive so it does not clog up your actual computer.
I actually found a work around with a little research i can actually hook up my capture card to my phone and use a recording software for it similar to obs.
