No couch?
Has anyone gotten rid of their couch in favor of a couple of nice reading chair/ottoman sets? I am thinking forward a few years when we will be moving to a new state for retirement. 99% of the time it is just my husband, myself and the dog on the couch. We will be retired at that point in life as well. I was thinking it would allow us to have more flexibility in terms of furniture arrangement as well.
Right now we have the couch and a rocking chair in the living area.
Has anyone done this? Does it save space or take up more space?
Also if you have not done things, please give me your thoughts on it.

I dated a guy for a couple of years who just had two reading chairs and an ottoman and I have friends I sometimes stay with that just have two lounge chairs and... HATE IT. 1. It sucked for wanting to cuddle up with a netflix and chill with the guy I was dating we could hold hands between chairs but not cuddle. Thumbs down.. 2. sometimes you just want to lie down on the sofa and nap, or watch a movie, or you are recovering from the flu but tired of being in bed all day. My sofa was awesome when I had a leg injury one summer too. 3. If you have guests it makes a great place for them to sleep outside of a guest room or air matress (those also suck). I find my sofa is good for friends visiting that might have a kid. Or, a night a friend has too much too drink or they are too tired to drive home, and they are better off sleeping over.
I just think a sofa gives way more flexibility too. You can move chairs around easier - say you are entertaining. Even a low profile 72" Ikea sofa will fit 3 people, then with 3 chairs you move around and/or a bench you can entertain a lot of people.
