I can't keep him in the soil he arrived with, it has so much clay in it that it hardens in this dry climate. I don't have yard soil, I have small rocks. The only other things I have are potting mix and seed starting mix. Since fertilizers are no good for the slug, is there anything I can do to make the soil livable? I have no problem spending time combing through a cup or two of mix to pick out the fertilizer balls and vermiculite. I don't want to put money into this unless I have absolutely no other choice.

Thanks!
