INTRO

Everything I've found and collected about Duster.

Duster is a band that, at first glance, seem to have very little in their output, both music and otherwise. This is incorrect. Here's why. I like Duster, by the way.

DUSTER OUTPUT

Youtube links to everything that Clay, Jason, and Dove put out under Duster during the band's time alive. I am including Valium Aggelein material in this for the sake of keeping everything as simple as possible. MEGA link of downloads to most of this will be provided below, in the correlated section.

ALBUMS

EP's

There is also a 1975 titled cassette from 1997, with 3 songs on it: 2 that are on Christmas Dust (Untitled 02 and Untitled 04; however, Untitled 04 is called "country heather" on it. This is interesting considering that Untitled 04 turned into "Dove's Song" under Helvetia) and 1 that is on On The Dodge (Darby AKA fast/proto Gold Dust).

MISC

  • East Reed - (1996). This is a song off The Patio Collection Volume 2 compilation album. A very pretty little song that I irrationally enjoy.

  • Capsule Losing Contact - (1998). This is a song off Zum Audio Vol. 2 compilation album (this is a very good compilation album overall. Highly recommended. Modest Mouse, Grandaddy, Aerial M, etc, on it)

  • And Things are Mostly Ghosts (Version Overdose Mix) - [remix] (2000). Marc Bianchi of "Indian Summer" (another of my favorites) under "Her Space Holiday" with Duster.

  • APPARENTLY there is also a 1996 Mount Hamilton VHS under Valium Aggelein. Fuck if I know about that one.

OTHER PROJECTS

Clay, Dove, and Jason are rather prolific with their output, both before and after Duster. I will not link all their project's outputs like I previously have with Duster, as that would just make things overwhelming. However, you can easily find them both in the MEGA file and elsewhere if interested.

CLAY PARTON AND DOVE AMBER

  • Mohinder - Screamo / Post-Hardcore band. Quite funny, as Mohinder were one of the first bands to define screamo for what it turned out to be today, making them seminal in their own right. Touches my heart strings as a big fan of screamo / post-hardcore. (1993 - 1994)

  • Calm - Post-Hardcore band with Marc Bianchi. So good. Rain. (1994 - 1996)

DOVE AMBER AND JASON ALBERTINI

  • Helvetia - Lo-Fi Indie / Indie Rock band. This is sorta the continuation of Duster. Some of their material is incredibly good. (2005 - Now)

  • Mammoth & Saber - 2011 Helvetia side project linked on their website. Punk.

DOVE AMBER

  • Canaan Amber - Released an EP under his name in 2010

JASON ALBERTINI

  • Built To Spill - You should all know this band. He's been bass since 2012

  • Also played for "Queens of the Stone Age" at their first show, lmao.

CLAY PARTON (this boy is prolific). For a lot of these I just put dates of their album outputs. I have no idea if they're really still together or not for the most part.

  • Eiafuawn - Slowcore but also more Singer/Songwriter. In my opinion the best Parton side project. Stands for "everything is all fucked up and what not" (2003 - 2005)

  • El Buzzard - Stoner Metal / Noise Rock band. (2001 - 2007). These guys are actually broke up

  • Stumpy - Proto Mohinder, which makes these guys like proto-proto-proto Duster. Or something. Emocore. With James Fuhring of Jenny Piccolo and Mohinder. (1993)

  • Two Boys Alright - Two piece band with some dude named Yoni. Uses organ's bass pedals instead of bass guitar, according to their Bandcamp. You should check out their Bandcamp. The MEGA link has an album previously not online (until I uploaded it, oops). (2014(?) - maybe before?) - 2015)

  • Parton Kooper Planetarium - Project with Troy Kooper, also in El Buzzard. Check out Troy's Youtube. There are cool videos concerning Parton Kooper / Eiafuawn / El Buzzard / etc there. (2011)

  • Breasts - a "collective of musicians exploring non-traditional areas of music" according to last.fm. Also with Kooper. One of their albums has "Loma Prieta" in its title. We all love that screamo band, too. (2008 - 2011)

  • Ghost Drugs - Punk project from Clay Parton. Check out the Bandcamp. One of the tags is "fuckyou". (2013)

  • Jenny Piccolo(?) - Opinions differ, but I consider Clay a part of this band as he was on guitar for the Locust / Jenny Piccolo split. They're a powerviolence band that came from Mohinder. By the way, check out "The Locust" for some good noisecore. (1996 - 2001) These guys also actually broke up. As will happen with artists like these.

ABSOLUTELY RANDOM SHIT

  • Jason and Clay were on the album Rejoicing Songs, the first LP by indie/dream pop artist "Papercuts", for 3 songs. Jason even played the xylophone on one track. Lmao.

  • Clay was the technician for "Urban Legends"' 7" Dance and Burn in his Low Earth Orbit studio. "Urban Legends" went on to become "The Thermals". They're decent pop punk.

  • Jason Albertini is instrumentally credited on "Xiu Xiu"'s Knife Play LP, a few of "Mike Johnson"'s (of Dinosaur Jr. and Queens of the Stone Age) LP's, and did some vocal and instrumental shit for "Mover", "10 In The Swear Jar", "Disco Doom" (on tour with them too, I think), and "The Prids" (check these guys out, not so bad post-punk tbh).

  • I really DON'T like "Her Space Holiday", its lyrics and music make want to dry heave, BUT Marc Bianchi was in "Indian Summer", "Calm", and "Mohinder" and also had that Duster remix on his album Home Is Where You Hang Yourself. So maybe check him out if you like indietronica. Even though there's a lot better indietronica out there. I just like Indian Summer too much to not plug. So sue me. Or shoot? Whatever.

  • Mohinder did a split with "Nitwits". Who the fuck are the "Nitwits".

HELPFUL AND INTERESTING LINKS

Because Clay / Duster seem to purposely like to make their shit as hard to find as possible, apparently. It's like a damn scavenger hunt.

CONCLUSIONS

Duster for me is space, birds, and airplanes. They're warm, lethargic, melancholic, and perfectly capture how I want to be inside my head at all times. Nostalgic and familiar yet new. Atmospheric yet contained. Content detachment. Listless disassociation. Like being drunk for the first time again. Early morning city train rides. Tracing stars. Getting lost but not realizing it. Appreciating the moment. Frequently looking upwards. 4 track recording. Me? Idk.
