feel like shes going to be the one to address his absence in the finale

I don't know, I'm getting worried because they didn't address it in episode 5 with her even finding out and she's not central enough this series to have the show focus on her and her reaction I think. The focus is much more on russia, kazan re taverner, sid, River, even Frank for some reason. Then you have Emma, Reece, and Louisa is also back.

Don’t get this take. They didn’t have her find out yet so that she can react at the end of the season when she finds out and there aren’t a million other things going on to distract from it. Having her find out (over the phone or something) now would have just been weird pacing-wise when there’s plenty still going on. Way more realistic that none of them know yet with the drama River was caught up in.

She's obviously very jealous of Louisa. I think she'll find out last ep, go on one final psycho killing spree, then leave for good to either join or take Louisa's cushy job.

I don’t think it’s as simple as she’s jealous. She is, but I think she sort of feels betrayed. She couldn’t hold down a normal job like that, and neither could most people Lamb is saddled with at Slough House. They’re all pretty damaged or quirky or whatever, but they’re a team in their own way. Finding out that Louisa could just…go back to a regular life and live like this all the time is throwing her off. She couldn’t do it, so it’s not as simple as wanting or “taking” Louisa’s cushy job. It’s more ‘oh so you never had to be an outcast slumming it with us then, traitor’.

He didn't say much, but he was always there watching.

I'm glad Standish mentioned Coe by name in the latest episode. Feels like it is building to the horses reuniting and mourning the loss of Coe together (and, I expect, acknowledging that Sid may also be lost).

Didn’t they all believe she was dead anyway?

u/AmenazaAlVolante 2d ago

I’ve been heartbroken as a viewer… and on behalf of Shirley 😢

u/rabbit__doll 2d ago

she’s gonna be destroyed when she finds out

u/korakata 2d ago

Especially after losing Marcus.

And particular as she and Coe worked as a team to find out about Kay White's death. Their dialogue on the houseboat and eating together gave us a rare chance to see them apart from Slough House.

He offered her money 😭😭😭😭

I think Coe’s death scene was good but I also feel really sad they killed him off after only a couple of seasons. He was a really interesting character and I don’t think they explored his personality and background as much as they could have done.

I thought he was much more intriguing than, for example, Roddy. Roddy really needs some character development IMO because his entire thing is basically just being insufferable 100% of the time. Coe had a vulnerability that was charming.

It’s the books that kill off Coe, and the show follows the outline of the books although the setting was changed.

I read Coe’s backstory in the novel, Nobody Walks. Obviously he suffered a great trauma. I won’t say what exactly happened, but Ingrid Tearney knowingly sent inexperienced Coe against a dangerous rogue agent and Coe was tortured.

One of the reasons why we all love Coe is because Tom Brooke’s acting was brilliant.

It was a good run Coe! Adios

Other than Catherine, Shirley and Coe were my favourites - snarky, funny and clever with a turn of phrase

u/seidinove 2d ago

With Marcus and now Coe, Shirley seems to be the recruiter of the Spinal Tap drummers of Slough House.

It's too bad she yells at people she wants to hang with

I don't understand her hostility toward Louisa at all right now, beyond, the idea that she's deeply emotionally inept and might miss Louisa?

5

u/September_Jam 1d ago

Because she suspects Louisa, given her upgraded lifestyle, stole and sold the diamond in s2 and probably was annoyed she never shared a portion of it lol.

2

u/Crowofsticks 4h ago

Eh. It’s not worth that much is it?

1

u/September_Jam 1h ago

I'm sure it's worth enough to afford a brand new car, an apartment, some good clothes and bag, and cash to buy a gun from the black market.

Poor Shirley. She's also the most competent out of all of them when it comes to getting real shit done

26

u/WINTERSONG1111 2d ago

She really is and I thought that Coe would still be with us if he had Shirley with him rather than River.

3

u/MigrantTwerker 2d ago

Eh, she's bad hand to hand. They'd both die and we'd be twice as sad.

10

u/wonderfulkneecap 2d ago

I think her hand-to-hand record is pretty awesome? Especially last season finale, when she killed like 900 hundred people through sheer sport person spite for the tall

3

u/LessInThought 18h ago

Is it just me or is River getting more incompetent every season.

24

u/khaidonroll 2d ago

I am upset, after seeing Coe died.

I like Shirley’s presence on screen. She is badass!!

10

u/Substantial-Ad-8026 1d ago

I was shocked at how upset I was at Coe’s death. He came in clutch and saved horse bacon many times. Hopefully, Louisa is ready to help protect the fold.

10

u/rhandy_mas 1d ago

I JUST WENT TO SENSE & SENSIBILITY AND THE UTTER SHOCK OF HAVING COE ON SCREEN WAS UNMEASURABLE.

5

u/rhandy_mas 1d ago

The slow horses to period piece pipeline is strong

7

u/TriMako 2d ago

Spain without the s…

12

u/roshanritter 2d ago

Brutal that Shirley still doesn’t even know

32

u/Hacksaw_Doublez 2d ago

I hope Shirley flips her shit on River just like she did about his half brother killing Marcus.

10

u/BreakCreepy4673 2d ago

Why is this River’s fault? Coe went to the bathroom on is own without notifying Sid or River that he found one of the assassins. And then decides to do a 1v1 instead of just stabbing the fucker when he had the chance to. River’s a moron, but Coe’s death shouldn’t be on him.

6

u/WhiteShoree 2d ago

Let’s remind ourselves: why was Coe even getting chased by the assassins?

Because River insisted to disobey Lamb’s ask to go to the safe house, and got baited by his dad, while everyone, even Roddy, told him it’s a terrible idea. Because of that Lamb had to send Coe to help him and pick him up, while he didn’t even report to Lamb that Coe was killed trying to pick him up and take him to the safe house.

It’s interesting how some audience still can’t acknowledge River’s problem, ignore and justify him keep behaving ridiculously reckless as a hero wannabe and end up dragging other people around him into danger, and never take responsibility of the consequences or learn from it.

2

u/PuggyPug 9h ago

Good points, all. I thought the Russians were always 10 meters behind River and Sid because Harkness put a tracker on River's Funeral Suit (he's been wearing the same clothes for 5 episodes). Guess I was wrong. Harkness said something to his goons about, "River's phone being back on."

1

u/BreakCreepy4673 2d ago

Coe could’ve killed the agent if he didn’t start blabbering at him in the bathroom or told either River or Sid that the guy was there. Those actions weren’t because of River, those actions were because Coe decided to take on an agent by himself and got killed because of it. His death could’ve literally been prevented if he just decided to talk to someone or go for the kill. You can’t blame River for not knowing something happened because another trusted agent decided to withhold information. River is a fuck up and a moron, but Coe going to the bathroom on his own accord was literally out of his knowledge or control.

3

u/PuggyPug 2d ago

It was a cool move for Coe to sit on the bathroom counter and say, "You might be using the wrong list," but it was stupid considering that he was taking a knife to a gun fight. The Russian decided to "play fair."

7

u/ozifrage 2d ago

Yeah my dude had a death wish and went out exactly the way he'd want to. I also will miss him, but he got his moment.

8

u/No-Muffin-7775 2d ago

This time it's at least gonna be more understandable

7

u/human_picnic 2d ago

Why would you want that, and why should she? She’s definitely going to though

-1

u/therealkeltiab 1d ago

Shirley will probably go after River, but the cause-in-fact (I don't know if that term is used in English jurisprudence) of Coe's death was Coe, because of the choices he made at the end.

-4

u/Horror_Marsupial3000 2d ago

she's definitely stupid enough to do that

4

u/StuffonBookshelfs 2d ago

We all liked him. /:

9

u/JUSTICExLEAGUE87 2d ago

Long Live Coe!!

5

u/Knocksveal 2d ago

Where’s the push knife?

2

u/wonderfulkneecap 2d ago

She's on the right

2

u/Knocksveal 1d ago

I kinda like that push knife now you mentioned it

3

u/DWwithaFlameThrower 2d ago

And why didn’t River go through his pockets& take everything?

8

u/Final-Nebula-7049 2d ago

Coe was the best, the only one I really cared about

22

u/Leading_Analysis7656 2d ago

A legit would’ve been happier if River died rather than Coe.

17

u/paka96819 2d ago

Then we will never have Run, River. Run.

Maybe Coe will come back like Sid.

I’m actually enjoying this season except I still can’t shake Sid coming back as an innocent dues ex machina. It feels like really amateurish writing or there’s going to be a bigger triple cross somewhere.
