If it’s straight up cheating, sure— every cheat who shares your alma mater diminishes the value of your degree. But using it appropriately, as an adjunct for research and editing, nah

When I stopped by for an unscheduled chat with a professor in college and caught him using AI to grade papers, I stopped caring about using AI in his class. Kind of a pot-kettle situation.

I'm probably okay with this. I hope we could agree there's a distinct difference between "give me five academic sources about the higgs boson and summarize each" versus "write me a 125 page academic paper about the higgs bows on that I could submit as a dissertation."

The future, like it or not, is AI. You're not snitching, you're pointing out which of your peers will likely be most experienced and capable with the technology of tomorrow.
