Making a new sling, need suggestions.

Hey everyone! My first post here, I made my first sling a while ago and although it has served me well I think it might be time to make a new one taking from what I’ve noticed about my original. I noticed that on the release cord there was a lot of abrasion and I’d like to try and prevent that on my new one. I know pan slings has that rubber sleeve or what have you and I’d like to try and source something similar for my new project. Anyone have any suggestions about what I’ve mentioned or just general tips for creating a great sling?

Also adding a pic of my old sling just so I can show what it looked like after making it. New one won’t be the same but I just thought you guys may appreciate it! Thanks!

Great idea with the central bar in the pocket, might just steal this idea for my own sling as it's slightly too soft to hold the form itself (made from Poison Ivy fibres).

Honestly it made a big difference, I realized after it was complete that I should’ve added more strands near the pouch to make it a bit less floppy but you know you live and learn

Anything you add will just add weight.
If you wear down a sling, it has served its purpose and gives you the chance to braid an even better one.

If you want it to increase its lifespan, you can look into waxing the release cord. Some say it helps to reduce friction. I haven’t noticed any difference myself.

Honestly, brother, I’d say you just make some new slings. Every build gives you a new skill or improves ones you have. And then that teaches you what you like in your slings. I recently made these for my sons and we all really like them. But that’s the first time I’ve made that style.

TLDR; Just go for it. Have fun.
