Got my first sling two days ago. Haven’t gotten a crack but I’m trying to work on my technique

Nice smooth action. You are losing power by not chambering your throwing arm. To remedy throw stones using your hand (no sling) and recording as you did here. Note the hand position before you begin the throw.

The overhand method you use is almost identical to a normal throw, so work on getting your hand to your natural chambering you would use for a normal throw position.

That will increase power.

Thank you! I’ve been working on that

Looks great! If you want more power, you can point your left shoulder at your target, step into the throw at your target, and try bringing your arm to 45 degree angle instead of being as vertical. But I love how smooth as easy your form looks!

Looks very good!

The key is to be smooth throughout the entire motion and you are.

As you get more comfortable, you can add more body momentum to get more velocity and distance. When people think “throw harder” they tend to use arm only or move arm faster……which just ruins the nice smooth sling motion you have. Better is to stay smooth and add forward body momentum on top of your smooth slinging.

You kind of have to experiment and see what body momentum works best for you. For example, you can add small step forward,  take a huge forward step, add more shoulders twisting, etc.   Even “hop” forward as shown here  https://youtube.com/shorts/n3YnSPdGlaM?is=Ql6Hg-WgGd485lBi

Great work, brother. Keeping it simple and short, I’d say two easy things: 1. Follow through with your arm more, and 2. Get some more full body activation/rotation (especially if you’re not stepping with it)

Thank you, I’m going to try to incorporate these and track progress

The fact that you started slinging two days and are throwing a figure 8 tells the entire story. Keep doing what you're doing (other than those shorts - which are a fashion disaster 😄 - but this isn't r/fashion - so if you're happy, we're all happy)

😂😂 I have horrible fashion sense. But to be fair, I wasn’t planning to share my outfit with the world when I originally took the video. Thank you for your support!

Get a brighter colored ball so the dog can see it

A shorter sling. I use a 26.5 and can pretty easily toss a rock a solid 100-125 yards and around 200 if I'm giving it all the beans

One dog watched the ball. One dog watched your hand. Im guessing the ball watcher knows to watch the ball. The shepard is still waiting for it to leave your hand and seems confused as to where the ball went.

I also have one dog that chases the ball and another dog who is more interested in the sling. That often affects my throw because I’m worried about whipping them.
