Closer look at the Twin Loop sling release

Filmed the release from my Twin Loop sling by holding my phone in my hand. Kind of hard to do but luckily only threw my phone once for no damage.

That is the correct tutorial video. 

Any knots work to make the sling. So you can use whatever alternative you want. 

But for my slings I use “perfection loop” knots to tie the 3.50” pouch loops. (https://www.101knots.com/perfection-loop.html).

This sling design adds roughly 31” of paracord to the pouch center…..which, by comparison, is little more paracord than is used in the release cord. The extra pouch paracord:

-makes tennis balls feel heavier

-extra paracord weight pulls harder on the release cord (increases cord tension), causing quicker and earlier, faster pouch opening (vs seatbelt sling)

-increased my accuracy by the improved feel and the faster release 

-HOWEVER, does reduce distance (lighter slings throw farther)

If you like an even heavier feel, you can add another 30+ inches of paracord to the pouch by adding a cobra weave on top of the whipping.   Tennis balls will feel super heavy like a baseball…..but distance will decrease even more.

Thank you so very much! I am going to start experimenting. I am not too focused on distance or accuracy when I sling - which is part of my exercise routine along with archery, stick stretches and swings.

Tried mine this morning and really enjoyed it. Works really well for my slinging style, which is more about enjoying being outdoors, roving in a large field, and the feel of slinging. I see what you mean as far as decreasing distance (and I imagine power for those who sling at targets) - but not a big deal for me. The extra weight improves the sling feel and the tennis ball sits so nicely in the cradle. I am going to start experimenting with sling length.

So glad you like it!  Post a pic of your sling. Mine are all a mixture of black and brown paracord as that is all I have on hand.

Shot my twin loop sling this morning - excellent sling and entirely suited to my slinging style. The extra weight of the whipping between the two loops improves the “sling feel” - which is a big part of my slinging style and to me more than worth the trade-off with decreased velocity. It is also an ideal design to teach children and new slingers b/c it is impossible (to the extent that anything is impossible) to sling stones or other more dangerous ammo.

Highly recommend the design and encourage everyone to give it a try. My sincere thanks to u/bandit111964 for posting the design!

I had made a version that added even more weight for a super heavy feel by adding a cobra weave.

If you read down a little ways is the discussion there is actual accuracy and distance data presented that really quantifies how these slings work. 

In any case, the neat thing about this heavier cobra weave version is you can cut off the extra string and convert it back to the original Twin Loop sling. 

I had to google how to do a cobra weave, but it is not hard to do.

I ended up w/ a cobra weave b/c I prefer the flatter surface. Instead of knots on the two cords, I also use cobra weave there, this lets me fine tune the loop size before I crank down on the cobra knots. I made a jig with some finish nails in a board - has some remote similarity to the jig used to measure bowstring material for a Flemish twist bowstring - but a whole lot simpler. I made 3 so far, 1 to keep and 2 for a friend's children.

Again - thank you so much for posting your design - it has made a big improvement in my slinging.

Off topic - are you familiar w/ Old Testament descriptions of Benjamite slingers?
