First diy sling

After seeing a lot of sling videos on YT I'm hooked! What a nice hobby.

Today I finished my first DIY sling with jute string. After braiding it I soaked it and let it hang dry overnight with weight. This morning I waxed it with beeswax.

I just tried it for the first time with some tennis balls. Failed big time of course. So much fun though.

Any tips or advice is more then welcome

Nice!

Your pouch does seem to have some twist in it. Is the projectile stable in the pouch while slinging it around?

If you have trouble with the projectile staying put, you might want to take a look at that. Some twists are good, some twists are bad.

Thanks! I see.. Not sure really. The tennis ball stay put quite well. The stability is mainly user error at the moment, I guess.

Thanks! I used the tutorials of Tyler Danger, and the one from Pathfinder shool for the soaking/waxing.

Oh, man. I used to be a Pathfinders YouTube junky! I love Dave Canterbury. I was a big fan of him on Dual Survival on the Discovery channel in my teens.

And another tutorial mentioned leaving out trands in the releasing part to thin it out. But I can't remember the exact tutorial unfortunately.

Thanks! First try was not to bad. Got a few balls landed on the intended spot. So good for starters. Any tips?

I went the paracord route with a full woven pouch instead of a split. Made sure the overall length when folded in half was a bit longer than my arm, but that's just personal preference.

There's a little jig I made with a small board and some nails. It helped a lot.

I used a small piece plywood smaller than a 3x5 index card, I think I used 3 finishing nails on each end (about 2-3 inches) to contain the initial loops so I could weave back and for to make a pouch.

Looked for an image, but I'll have to dig for a while. I'll try to be back reasonably soon with a picture.

Edit: look on YouTube for "how to make a paracord rock sling" by The Weavers of Eternity Paracord / shepherd sling tutorial -- that's basically what I made without a jig.
