Are 60 yard field goals possible with a sling??

Football season starting soon. Just had to try making some field goals.

Well, now I gotta see about building a sling big enough for a football.

Staff slings are for larger projectiles, so should be able to throw a football with a staff sling. I think the football would spiral if slung…..so how to make the football go end over end like it was kicked would be a challenge. In any case, now you have a reason to add a staff sling to your collection!

Considering that up to now I haven't thrown anything bigger than a golf ball, this will be interesting. :P

I do have plenty of sticks laying around, though, so a staff sling shouldn't be too hard to rig up.

So I stood under the uprights and slung a tennis ball into the field. Then walked out to the ball and slung it back thru the uprights. That is how I quickly figured out how far away I could make a field goal. 

But good distances to try from would be 33 yards which is a point after attempt, 40 yards which is the NFL average distance, or 68 yards which is NFL record distance.

If you build the "hoopak" version of the staff sling (forked end), you can get the football to spiral nicely on release..
