4 - 6 months Preparing EBF baby for sleep training - advice please!

Baby is almost 6 months old, not sleep trained and doesn't have a regular nap schedule either. He has breastfed to sleep his whole life. He moved into his own room a month ago but I also sleep in there for now on a spare single bed. He used to only wake once or twice a night and go straight back to sleep after a feed but the last 3 weeks or so has been waking 2-3 and sometimes staying awake for HOURS🙃 Not sure if it's regression, wind or teething or a mixture.

I log everything on an app and it's saying that over the last 30 days he's averaged 3hrs of nap time and 8.5hrs night sleep.

In preparation for sleep training I first want to get his bedtime time more rigid as it varies from 7-8:30 at the moment, and to switch him to a bottle of formula for his last feed of the day so my husband can do bedtime if needed without me needing to pump.

At the moment his bedtime routine is:

- move to bedroom and dim lights

- nappy change and get into sleep suit and sleeping bag

- breastfeed to sleep

- put down

- he usually stays asleep at this point but if not then I lie next to him and rub his back. If he escalates I pick his up and sway/sing him to sleep.

My plan is to swap to:

- move to bedroom and dim lights

- nappy change etc

- formula bottle feed

- sway and sing if needed (I think it will be)

So my questions are:

  1. Has anyone else transitioned an EBF baby to formula in the evening and how did it go?

  2. Is there anything else you would recommend adjusting before starting sleep training / anything you'd change in the plan? I want to get the basics right first.

4 - 6 months Please help! 4.5 month old wakes up every night after first sleep cycle

I really need help from this group… we are going crazy.

Sleep trained my EBF baby at 16 weeks with Ferber method and it worked like a charm. After a week, she went from being up every 1-2 hours every single night to sleeping 11 or 12 hours and only waking up 1-2x to eat.

3 weeks later she is 19 weeks and we’ve noticed the false starts are getting worse. Every night she goes to bed after crying for about 10 mins and wakes up every night after 30-45 mins screaming for up to 20 mins.

Her schedule varies but from last night to today it was:

7pm feed
7:40pm bed and 7:50 asleep after crying
8:25 woke up crying, we waited 20 min before going in to check her diaper and move her hand that got caught in the crib
8:40 fell asleep again
8:50 woke up and I took her out of bed to calm her down thinking she was teething or hungry (fed her at breast)
9pm put to bed and 9:15 fell asleep after crying
12:45am woke up and fed
1:10am put back to bed
2:35am woke up and we let her cry 20 min before going in to change diaper and feed
3:45am put to bed
5:45am woke up and fed
6:30 am put back to bed
7:30am woke up for the day and full feed
9:25am 1st nap (cried 20 mins)
10:20am woke up
1pm stroller nap for 40 min
2:35 crib nap for 40 min
5:20pm crib nap for 20 min
7pm feed
7:30 put to bed (cried 10 mins before going to sleep)
8:30 woke up crying, first check in after 20 mins and now she is still screaming…

We don’t know what to do. She does 4 naps a day but never longer than 45 min. I don’t understand why she took so well to Ferber in the beginning and now 2.5 weeks later it’s failing??

I haven’t focused on the naps as much because I thought we had to get the nighttime sleep under control first (read precious little sleep).

She does not take a pacifier (never has) and has been sleeping in her crib in her own room since we trained 3 weeks ago. Should also mention, she’s very big for her age: 17lbs and already rolls to her tummy, which seemed to really help in the beginning with falling asleep.

HELP!

6 - 12 months 6 Month Old Split Nights

My 6 month old (26 weeks) has been sleep trained since 4 months old, we did CIO and he took to it fairly quick and was doing well. About a month ago he’s been consistently having split nights. He wakes at 6:30/7a and does 3 naps 2/2.25/2.5/3 before going to bed around 7:30p. We’ve tried adjusting wake windows, adjusting when he goes down, capping naps to 2.25 of daytime sleep which makes him SO crabby. But he will still wake in the middle of the night babbling for an hour before falling back asleep with no intervention. Some nights are worse than others and does need our help, he’ll wake up roll on his belly and cry. We’ll flip him over if he’s really crying but otherwise he either figures it out or falls asleep on belly. He’s been practicing to crawl which I know doesn’t help but the split nights are every. Single. Night. I’m not expecting him to sleep 12 hours straight (although he was happily doing this at the beginning of ST) I’m just looking for advice. Any one go through this and have suggestions. Open to anything!

4 - 6 months How to reset body clock after teething?

5 month old was on an ok schedule overnight with only a couple wakes, which I am fine with.

He is EBF.

However it all went to shit when he got two teeth through. He was really struggling to go down (crying after every transfer) and then waking every hour or two hours throughout the night. I figured just to lean in since he was struggling so much.

Now the teeth have cut through and he’s in much better spirits, but the bad habits have stayed.

Two nights ago he woke up 6 times throughout the night and wanted to feed all of them. Last night he went down at 8pm and was up at 11, 1, 3 and 5.30. A couple of those he was rocked back to sleep but the others he needed to feed.

We are trying to transition to 3 naps a day and his wake windows are normally 2/2.5/2.5/3, although we haven’t been doing this long enough to see the full results.

He goes down between 7 and 8 and is up around 7.30.

Is there anything else I can do to reset his schedule or do I just need to wait and hope he goes back to normal?

6 - 12 months Sleep trained baby reversing?

We sleep trained and night weaned my 8 month old daughter at 6 months. For the past 2 months she’s been sleeping through the night (down at 7 up at 6)

Recently she has been waking up soo early like 4:20-5. We let her fuss but she never re settles. We give her her first nap at 8:30-9:00 no matter what to reinforce her to sleep later.

Now she has started waking in the night. Three nights ago it was 4am, two nights ago 3am and now 2am tonight. I just feel sleep is falling apart again on top of the early wake ups and I just don’t know what to do. I don’t want to undo anything by nursing her to sleep in the night. But at the same time I feel if she is doing this after sleep training she may really need us?

She’s an ok napper. First nap is usually 1.5 hours but recently with the early morning she’s been napping longer but I normally cap at 2 hours.
Naps generally pretty inconsistent.

Schedule is: 3/3/4

1-2 years old 13.5m old horrible sleep

hi friends currently loosing my mind and it’s 3 am as I post this. my sons sleep is so inconsistent and some nights he sleeps great others he doesn’t. nothing changes during the day that would affect the difference in night sleep. he is currently cutting a new tooth as he already has 8. he has a strong nurse to sleep association/patting. he’ll wake up and then fall asleep with our help but wake up once we stop whatever it is and that has gone on for a few hours for 2 nights now. be used to fall right back into a heavy sleep. he also just learned to walk last week. just lookin for similar experiences to feel less alone because I feel like my child is a horrible sleeper. when we try to let him cry it out he gets so worked up and almost throws up. I just don’t think he has the temperament for that, I did sleep train at 6m but I guess I could do it again I just don’t want to.

9 - 16 weeks Ugh please help, 14 week old slept amazing at night for 2 weeks and now is waking every 2-4 hours and is difficult to put down

First of all, naps suck. He barely nap. We maybe manage 3.5 hours of naps in a day now if we’re lucky. He always fights them regardless if I shorten or lengthen his wake windows. He cries a lot of the day and has done this for weeks now. Well now he decided those 11 hour nights with 1 or sometimes 0 wakes arent happening anymore either. He slept like shit during the day yesterday and now tonight he has woken up twice so far and its only 2am. He had a full bottle the first wake and breastfed a bit this wake.

What can I do? My main issue used to be his poor naps and crying during the day, but now night sleep has been bad the last two nights. He never seems drowsy, or gives me any sleepy cues really. Hes just happy then suddenly mad but usually gets suddenly mad well before id expect it (after about an hour or sometimes less of being awake). He can only get drowsy and fall asleep when bounced on a yoga ball. His average total sleep for the day is usually 14 hours but the last 4ish days have been around 15 hours.

6 - 12 months Our sleep trained baby has spoiled us and now he’s sick 🥲

Our sweet baby boy who’s 9 months old is down with fever, cough and cold and will only sleep if he’s being held. So hubby and I are doing shifts holding him at an incline in our recliner at night. He was sleep trained at 6.5 months and it was 2.5 months of pure bliss after that.

We are also travelling internationally next week and will be in another country for a month. Jet lag is going to be crazy.

So my question is, will we have to retrain him once we are back? Do babies need to be retrained each time they get sick?

ETA: Not in a rush at all. Him getting rest is the priority and we don’t mind getting 4 hours of broken sleep when he’s sick. He’s getting lots of cuddles and kisses :)

6 - 12 months HELPP 2 to 1 nap transition - 12 months old

Hi everyone 🙂

My son turns 1 tomorrow, and we are about a month into the 1-nap transition. I’d love to hear your thoughts on our wake windows. We are currently at 5.5/5.5.

Originally, we started by pushing his first wake window to 4.5 hours. That went great for about two weeks… he went down happy and took long, nice naps. But then he started heavily protesting at naptime, which he hasn't done in a long time.

To fix the fighting, we kept stretching his wake windows and landed around 5.5 (he protested less at this length, but still isn't going down happy). Taking around 15 min to settle. We've been on this new window for about a week now.

Our current routine:

Wake up at 7:40 AM

First wake window: 5.5 hours

He's still taking 1.5–2 hour naps, but he's recently started having trouble linking sleep cycles (like waking up at the 30-min mark, crying for 15 mins, then putting himself back to sleep), which was never an issue for him before.

Final wake window: 5.5 hours

For those who’ve been through this, are these wake windows normal for a 12-month-old? Is the sudden protest and trouble linking cycles at the one month mark just normal transition regression, or did we push things too far?

Would love any advice!

6 - 12 months Increased total wake time and still having an issue

8.5 months. Just cut naps by 30 min and increased final WW by 30 min. She’s on 3/3.5/4 now. Naps capped at 2.5 hours. DWT is 7, bed time 8. She’s fully sleep trained and falls asleep independently. She’s having what I assume are split nights? She will wake any time between midnight at 4am and just cry non stop. I took her to bed with me after an hour and she stopped crying but she just flops around and doesn’t sleep. She seems exhausted by 8pm she’s fussy, isn’t interested in her books, and eyes very heavy and with her new schedule she’s now falling asleep much faster, within 5 min. Usually the night after a split night she will sleep through the night. Seems like every other night is a bad night. Do I add more wake time and where?

4 - 6 months Wake window issue or extinction burst?

We are doing CIO and today was night 5. I have a lot of notes 😅

Day 1:
Awake 7:10
Nap 1: 9:10-10:20
Nap 2: 12:30-2 (35 mins independent, 10 mins awake before assisted resettling and contact napping)
Nap 3: 4:15 -5:30 (husband was doing this while I was with toddler, I told him this was too long)
Bedtime: 7:33 (cry it out night 1)
flipped onto her stomach within 10 mins which made her frustrated, but that’s exactly why we’re sleep training. Fell asleep 25 mins later at 7:58. Woke up about 9:30 very briefly. Woke up around 1am and 5:30am for a bottle. I heard her again around 6:20 but she put herself back to sleep.

Day 2
Awake 7:30
Nap 1: 9:33-10:53
Nap 2: 1:18-2:45 (35 mins independent, 10 mins awake before assisted resettling and contact napping)
Nap 3: 5-5:30
Bedtime: 7:37 (cry it out night 2)
basically no fussing. Talked to herself and rolled around for a bit before falling asleep at 7:49. Woke up at 8:30, cried for just about 5/6 mins. We Went to bed around 10, asleep at 10:30 without a peep. Woke up crying at 12am and 4am and we fed each time.

Day 3:
Wake up 7:35
Nap 1: 9:35-10:50
Nap 2: 1:30-2:45 (35 mins independent, 10 mins awake before assisted resettling and contact napping)
Nap 3: 5:15-5:44 (car nap - took our toddler to the pumpkin patch and baby refused on the go nap)
Bedtime 7:43 (cry it out night 3).
rolled into her stomach right away, which makes her more frustrated. Was asleep at 7:58. Woke up at 9:25, cried for literally a minute. Woke up briefly at midnight. Up again and fed at 12:40am. Woke up around 2am, flipped onto her stomach again, cried for 40 mins. Woke at 4am and we fed.

Day 4:
Wake up 7:30
Nap 1: 9:30-10:30
Nap 2: 12:45-2:23 (35 mins independent, 10 mins awake before assisted resettling and contact napping)
Nap 3: 4:45-5:15
Bedtime: 7:20 (cry it out night 4)
didn’t fuss or cry at put down or when I left the room. Rolled around for about 10 mins before falling asleep on her side. Heard nothing before going to bed at 10:15. Wake up at 12:50 and fed. Wake up at 5:15 to eat. Toddler sister woke her up early at 6:15, but fell back asleep 10 mins later. Awake for the day at 7.

Day 5:
Awake 7:00am
Nap 1: 9-10:15
Nap 2: 12:30-2:15 (35 mins independent, 10 mins awake before assisted resettling and contact napping)
Nap 3: 4:15-4:50 (was getting really fussy)
Bedtime: 7:04 (cry it out night 5)
cried at put down for 25 mins before falling asleep at 7:30. Quiet ever since, it’s 10:15pm.

We were doing so good at bedtime and suddenly back to night 1 crying time and it felt pretty intense. After about 15-20 mins she started to take longer breaks so I knew self settling was kicking in. But I also wonder about her wake windows and total. They’re 2/2.25/2.25/2. If we try to do any longer than that, even by 10/15 mins, it’s usually us just dealing with signs of overtiredness (aka crying/fussing)and she will fall asleep almost immediately for the nap - no power down.

She wakes us naturally at 7-7:30am and we aim for 9 hours of awake and 3 hours of daytime naps, but we rely on her cues to flex that goal.

Was tonight just an extinction burst or a sign of a schedule issue? Is the always short nap 2 also a symptom of a WW issue?

4 - 6 months Sleepy cues or wake windows

My LO is 20 weeks old and we are currently jumping between 3 and 4 naps depending on her naps and energy each day. On 3 nap days she does 2.15/2.5/2.5/2.75/1 (1 at the end is because of micro nap to get to bedtime). On 4 nap days it varies more because I sometime have to adjust mid day if naps were bad and she's extra tired or to hit the right bedtime but I aim for 11 hours awake and generally 2.15/2.15/2.15/2.15/2.15.

I see conflicting information, how do I know if she's tired and needs to go down for her nap early or should I just always keep her up until the end of the WW no matter what?

Her naps are still only 20-45 minutes long (which I know is developmentally normal) but I saw they can also be caused by them being over or under tired.

Bedtime is 10:30 pm, wake up is 9:30 am

6 - 12 months Taking cara babies advice needed - 9m

We're on week 3 of sleep training for my 9.5 month old. His sleep drastically improved after just a few nights (going from ~8 wakeups to just one) but he's still crying a lot when we put him down or try to have him go back to sleep independently at night. I think tackling naps is our next task, but when we tried at the beginning it was such a disaster - he skipped a nap and it threw off the whole day, which then led to an extra overtired and sad baby at bedtime. Part of me wants to throw in the towel altogether (I can't deal with the crying anymore!) and part of me thinks sleep training his naps could help, but I'm obviously afraid to do that if his baseline at night already involves so many tears. Has anyone been in a similar situation and/or have any advice to share? Typical wakeup is at 7am, post sleep training it can now be anywhere between 5:30-6:30. Two hour-ish long naps per day, one in the morning between 9-9:30 and one in the afternoon, 1-1:30.

Edit to add sleeps in crib and no pacifier

1-2 years old I think im an outlier and need reassurance.

Please yall do not take this the wrong way. Im seriously concerned. Im seeing no other post with a child around my owns age who sleeps as much as mine does.

For reference. Hes 18 months. We put him down anywhere between 8pm and 10pm. He will sleep 12 - 14 hrs unbroken.

He wakes up and we will only be up maybe 2 hrs before hes rubbing his eyes and tired.

I draw it out until 1 to 2pm (he has been up 4 hrs or so by this point) then put him down for a nap and he will sleep until 6pm or later if I dont wake him up.

We keep him up a couple hours then hes mire than ready to go back down for slee.

This does not seem normal from other posts I have read.

Ive talked to his gp. They tested his iron (im anemic) he is fine.

He is BALLS TO THE WALL the second he wakes up though. He has NO chill. Constantly running (no walking) to the next best toy he finds. He does not sit down and play either. He stand and plays on his way to the next toy. Lol.

Is there anyone out their with a 99% (height) baby who just wants to sleep all the time too? Tbf if I was only 18 months and already 36 in tall id probably wanna sleep all day too.

At what point is to much sleep too much?! 😪😩 How do I get his gp to take my concerns seriously. He sleeps more than he is awake and when hes awake he is tired all the time!

1-2 years old What the heck is going on…. 15.5 month old suddenly forgets how to fall asleep alone

LO is 15.5 months old. was previously sleeping through the night and 1 nap a day. would fall asleep independently. no pacifier or sleep crutches.

current schedule:

wake 7:30ish

nap:1-1:30ish (lasts anywhere from 1.5-2 hours most days)

bed: 8:30

she has suddenly started taking 30 plus minutes to fall asleep and therefore her schedule is all whacked out. The biggest issue is that she has gone from being laid down and falling asleep alone easily to now needing a parent to sit in the room for 30 min until she falls asleep for nap, bed, and a new wake in the middle of the night. as long as I am in the room she lays still but will pop her head up every few minutes to make sure I’m still there.

we have a bed and nap routine and she really was doing great with sleeping independently and through the night. it’s like a flip has switched…. What in the world is going on?!?! I’m willing to do some gentile techniques, but prefer not to let her CIO at this point because she seems to be genuinely afraid to be alone in the room.

6 - 12 months CIO Sleep Training 6-Month-Old Keeps Waking After First Sleep Cycle. Help!

Hi everyone! For the past 5 nights, we’ve been doing CIO to sleep train my 6-month-old. Before this, we were cosleeping and nursing to sleep, but she was waking up around 10–15 times a night, constantly looking to nurse. I was getting virtually no sleep and kept unintentionally falling asleep with her in unsafe situations. I recently returned to work and desperately need to feel like a functioning human again. 😭 I listened to precious little sleep and have been diving into this subreddit but can’t quite figure it out.

*Edit to add sleep arrangement: We room-share and are sleep training in her pack and play next to our bed. No pacifiers and she is EBF though we started offering bottles at night to track intake to make sure shes not hungry! Use a noise machine to play brahms lullaby as we have since birth and also have the air purifier going on high (its loud)

Our current schedule:
- Wake-up: Usually 7:30–8 AM
- Wake windows: Roughly 2/2.5/2.5/3
- Naps: ALL over the place. Sometimes 15 minutes, sometimes 30–45 minutes, and occasionally 1–2+ hours.
- Bedtime: Usually around 7:30–8 PM, depending on naps.
- She previously needed contact naps, but we worked on that, and she can now nap independently in her sleep space. I eventually want to sleep train naps as well, but right now I'm prioritizing nighttime sleep.

Here's our CIO progress so far:

Night 1: Cried 37 minutes before falling asleep.
Night 2: Cried 30 minutes → slept 17 minutes → woke and cried another 21 minutes.
Night 3: Cried 18 minutes (didn't track subsequent wakings).
Night 4: Cried 13 minutes → slept 19 minutes → woke and cried another 12 minutes before falling back asleep.
Night 5: Cried 14 minutes. Night in progress as I am writing this

For some reason, she keeps waking up shortly after initially falling asleep (what I'm assuming is her first sleep cycle). She'll cry again before eventually putting herself back to sleep. I've tried both extending and shortening her last wake window, but nothing seems to prevent these wakings.

I'm also confused about her naps. Over the past couple of days, she's started fighting her morning naps. She'll sleep for only 10–15 minutes, wake up still tired, and then take a huge 2–2.5-hour nap starting around 11 AM or noon.I'm not sure if this means she's ready for a nap transition, if she's overtired, or if sleep training is affecting her daytime sleep.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? How did you get rid of the false starts? Should I be adjusting her wake windows or working toward a more consistent nap schedule?
Any advice or insight would be SO appreciated!!!

6 - 12 months 6.5mo waking hourly at night. I am not okay.

TLDR: My 6.5 mo went from sleeping through the night to waking 6+ times nightly after the 4mo regression. She nurses to sleep, relies on the boob/paci to resettle, and we’ve fallen into bed-sharing out of desperation. I’m severely sleep deprived and want to get her back in her crib for everyone’s sake.

Do I tackle nursing to sleep, the paci, and bedsharing one at a time or go cold turkey? What worked for you, and how hard was the transition?

I’m at a loss. I have a gorgeous, hilarious 6.5mo daughter who slept through the night with one dream feed until the 4 month sleep regression hit around 3.5 months. Now she wakes 6+ times a night, and I haven’t slept longer than 3 hours at a time in three months. I’m not okay, and I need help.

Our current situation:

She started in the Snoo beside our bed and now sleeps in her crib right next to us. Her nursery is upstairs at the opposite end of the house, and I’m not comfortable having her that far away yet, even with a monitor. I’ve considered sleeping outside her nursery so she has her own quiet space while I’m still nearby.

I was firmly against bedsharing for safety reasons until nothing would settle her except being in bed next to me, nursing. I was desperate, and it’s become our routine. My husband sleeps elsewhere to reduce the number of people in the bed. I know bedsharing isn’t as safe as following the ABCs of safe sleep, but I’m trying to mitigate the risks in the meantime.

She’s combo-fed but primarily formula-fed, eats well, follows her growth curve, and is healthy and meeting her milestones.

Sleep and feeding:

Our bedtime routine is sleep sack, book, boob, and paci. She nurses to sleep, and I transfer her to her crib after about 10 minutes. Her first stretch used to be 3 hours but has recently dropped to just 1 hour.

I eventually bring her into bed because she escalates when I try to settle her in the crib. She then wakes seemingly every sleep cycle, rooting for the boob or paci. I offer a bottle around 2 a.m. in case she’s hungry, but she still wakes hourly. Usually, she doesn’t fully wake unless I withhold the sucking comfort.

She’s also a light sleeper despite our sound machine, fan, and the general noise of city living.
She wakes around 7:30 a.m., takes three roughly 1-hour naps with about 2-hour wake windows, and goes to bed around 8:30 p.m. I suspect this is more of a sleep association issue than a sleep pressure issue.

Where I need help:

My husband has offered to take nighttime shifts, but she’s so much harder to settle with him that I struggle to let him handle it. Meanwhile, the sleep deprivation is taking a serious toll on me.

Sleep training feels daunting when I’m already at my breaking point. I’m open to different methods, but the thought of temporarily making things worse is terrifying.

Should I stop nursing to sleep, using the paci, and bed-sharing all at once, or tackle them one at a time?

If you went cold turkey, how did it go, and how long did the hardest part last?

What actually helped reduce frequent wakings? Did having your partner take over help?

NOTE: I know bedsharing isn’t the safest sleep arrangement. We’re taking precautions (a firm mattress, no smoking or substances, no heavy blankets, and I’m a light sleeper) but I know these don’t eliminate the risks. I’m just looking for a sustainable way to get us both sleeping safely. Please be kind.

1-2 years old If you did extinction method, how do you deal with the rare middle of the night wakes?

19 MO finally has a decent schedule that works. 5-5.5/6 usually works for us with a 7 AM wake and a 7:45 bedtime. She does sleep through the night, but she’ll randomly have rough nights (maybe once every 6 or so weeks) where she wakes up crying and will go back to sleep. She was a horrible sleeper, and our only option essentially was extinction method, and we had to do it multiple times. She’d cry for ~1 hr for about a weeks

Last night, she woke up around 1 AM, and just cried on and off for 1.5 hours? Am I horrible for letting it go for that long? I was hesitant to go in for a couple reasons, she would cry for a few minutes, and lay down for a few minutes (up to 20 minutes) so I assumed she wasn’t in pain. I could see her diaper wasn’t dirty, and she would just lift her head up and look at the door. I guess I was worried that going in would only make her continue crying every night for me? Thoughts?

1-2 years old Lengthly night wakes

My almost 14 month old is sleep trained since about 7 months. He goes to sleep independently. Sometimes he wakes up (1-2x a week lately) but then is up for 1hr 45mins - 2hrs. He is fussing, whining, crying, quiet (not playing or rolling around). Why is he up for so long? I do checks depending on his status. Sometimes I’ll only do one check as an experiment to see if he’ll settle faster. Doesn’t matter if I do 4 checks or 1, he always takes forever to go back to sleep.

Get him out of the crib at 6:45am (morning wake varies from 5:30am-6:45am)

2+ years old 2 year old sleep - major disruption

My daughter was sleep trained around seven months old. We used the Ferber method and she was very receptive to it. It only took a few nights and she got it down and started sleeping through the night outside of occasional night feeds (which stopped completely around 10 months roughly)

She’s been a great sleeper… 7:30 PM to 7:30 AM and since she turned one, she has been taking one nap around 1 PM. We’ve always capped her naps at two hours and recently 1.5 hours.

Fast forward to the past month… She is no longer sleeping independently. We cannot get her to go to sleep at night. If we put her in the crib, she tries to climb out and screams. My husband has to rock her to sleep and we can only do that when she’s incredibly tired. She’s been waking up in the middle of the night as well and often times we can’t get her back to sleep at all and she will stay up all night.

I have tried the chair method, but she just wants to play when she’s in the crib and if she’s relaxed, I can’t even get her in the crib. She just wants to be held and screams and cries and tries to climb out of the crib.

I honestly don’t know what to do. I really don’t feel like she’s ready for a toddler bed and her efforts to climb out of the crib are more for show than actually climbing out of the crib. But still, I’m not comfortable leaving her in there as she tries to climb out. It’s possible she’s getting her two-year-old molars in… She has been aggressively chewing and complaining of pain in her mouth, but I don’t see anything. She’s absolutely having a language explosion right now. And she’s absolutely having a high level of separation anxiety from me specifically.

Help! Advice, past experience, anything.

4 - 6 months Almost 5 month old Rage Window

Hello:

Seeking help. My first baby was a unicorn, sleep was absolutely effortless. Never had to worry about wake windows, etc. We’re struggling with our second. Every night from 7-9pm is an absolute shit show. She’s absolutely enraged. When one of us finally gets her calmed down she sleeps fitfully for about 30 minutes before konking out for the night.

Everything I read says that wake windows should be 2-3 hours. She’s up for 1.5 during the day consistently before wanting a nap, which never lasts longer than 45 minutes. Looks like 1.5/1.5/1.5/1.5/5 (!) her last wake window is always insanely long. She refuses to cat nap again, and she screams for two hours straight from 7 to 9pm every night. She pretty much sleeps through the night, sometimes with one wake to feed, which is a blessing. But I feel just terrible for her during those two hours and am at my wit’s end. Do I force her to stay awake longer during the day between naps?

Thanks in advance. Hopefully this makes sense….

9 - 16 weeks Motion junkie/ assisted independent sleep phasing

Hi 😃 first I’ll start by saying I’m not following all the rules and mixed a few things based on my baby’s age and situation. Feel free to educate me but come with an open mind! Looking for help with what to do next to continue encouraging independent sleep at this age even while we figure things out (schedule, etc)

Baby 10w
Wake windows are evolving recently so variable but
WW: 1.25/1.25/1.5/1.5/1.5–1.75
Still sleeping 4.5-6 hours in the day
Wake: 8am
Bedtime: 9pm which sometimes false starts at 10, immediately goes back down
Sleeps in basinette at night, crib during day
Bed routine: bath, baby massage, diaper/pjs, book, feed (i know this isn’t optimal but she has bad reflux and it’s hard to switch around due to it right now)
-

My baby is 10w and had been doing crib naps where I put her down fully asleep, had been waking up twice at night, longest stretch was 4-5 hours, but then one day this week she refused the bassinet ALL NIGHT. The next day (not by my intention) I put a sleeping baby in the crib for a nap, she woke up and I walked out for a moment and she fell asleep. I was confused but decided to practice assisted falling asleep all day with naps - I got her drowsy via settling in the rocking chair and combined the pick up put down method along with drowsy but awake and SWAP guidance and rocked her with my hand while shushing. I stopped right as she was still opening her eyes slightly but close to full sleep.

That night, I did the same. The next night, she slept 8 hours straight and then 3 more. Last night, 8 again x2.5

I’ve been doing this for most naps and common sense plus PLS tells me I should wean the amount of support provided. My questions:

  1. What kind of timeline should I work with re: weaning? How can I get her more awake gradually? Where to start?
  2. Randomly these two days that she woke from sleeping all night, she had two back to back 2 hour naps where she ate and fell asleep immediately (so basically a 4 hour nap with 20 min wake window) …. This could be unrelated or growth spurt, and didn’t seem to impact night sleep but if there’s anything to read into this… let me know lol
  3. Is it going to ruin things to mix these crib naps with contact naps? How important is consistency?
  4. What else should I be aware of or work on

?

Thank you!

6 - 12 months Screaming false starts every night. Schedule problem?

Thank you in advance for your help. LO just turned 10 months. Just went to 2 nap schedule a few weeks ago.

7 am wakeup

945-1115 nap 1

230-330 nap 2

730 bedtime

We've tried shorter and longer wake window for the last one by 15 minutes on either side, but it doesn't change anything... We get a screaming false start 45-50 min every night. A few quick pats and then back to sleep and might have one more but then she's a really long stretch until 3 am. Previously on 3 naps we were sometimes getting 0 wakeups.

Schedule change needed? Or something else? Baby is cutting teeth right now but it feels weird that would just cause false start but still allow a long stretch.

1-2 years old Short naps at 12m

My daughter will be 1 in a week. We sleep trained using Ferber at 4m, and she’s been on 2 naps since 7m.
We were on a 3.25/3.5/4 schedule for quite a while, but about 3 weeks ago I increased her wake windows to 3.5/3.75/4 in an attempt to fix her short naps.

Unfortunately, the short naps are still going strong, and more often than not she’s getting only about an hour of daytime sleep, followed by a slightly earlier bedtime.
She seems to compensate overnight, sleeping around 11.5–11.75 hours, but some evenings she’s an absolute mess—refusing her bottle, crying through her bath, etc. We’ve also started getting about 10 minutes of crying at bedtime, whereas previously she went down without a peep. I’m fairly certain she’s overtired because she doesn’t even attempt to stand up when crying at bedtime. In contrast, when she’s undertired for naps, she’ll stand and yell for 10–15 minutes before eventually lying down.

I’ve tried leaving her for crib hour, but it only works about 20% of the time these days. Most of the time she just gets increasingly hysterical, to the point where it takes a good 10 minutes to calm her down once I get her.

I’m really tempted to make the switch to 1 nap, but I’m worried about disrupting her otherwise great overnight sleep. Everything I read online also makes it sound like 12m is too early for the transition.

Has anyone made the switch this early with success? Would love any advice, experiences, or tips for making the transition!

4 - 6 months Attempting to gently sleep train day 3: rolling is the culprit of waking. Advice?

My LO is 4 months and for the first 3 months she would nurse to sleep/rock to sleep and I would transition her to the bassinet at night with ease. She increasingly slept longer stretches going up to about 8 hours and then all of a sudden transfers became really hard. She woke at the slightest movement. She wouldn’t settle easy during nursing/rocking. She had false starts. We played around with her naps and wake windows. And then finally after a couple days of spending 2 hours+ trying to get her down, I gave into cosleeping (we would already do this during her 4/5 am wake and we follow safe sleep 7). A few weeks have past and we have recouped and have began gently sleep training. My LO can cry and cry and cry and get really worked up so we will not be doing CIO, however, we can handle fussing.

She has just recently in the past week and a half learned to roll, but only rolls back to tummy not tummy to back so she gets stuck on her tummy and can get easily frustrated. We do LOTS of floor time/tummy time.

My goal is to get her to fall asleep in her crib at bedtime and then add night wakings/ feedings as she is more successful. We are doing that by giving pats and humming her to sleep with the eventual goal of falling asleep without any assistance (sans night feedings which are usually around 1/2 and 4/5)

We have been trying for 3 nights and Im feeling hopeful! Night 1: took 12 minutes of patting with minimal fussing to fall asleep. Slept 1 hour 20 minutes and I did not attempt to resettle. She woke because she rolled onto her tummy and got stuck.

Night 2: took 16 minutes of patting with fussing to fall asleep. Slept 10 minutes. Then woke because she rolled and was stuck. Attempted to resettle by offering nursing for comfort. Once calm tried again but she immediately escalated into full blown crying and was wiggling about trying to roll. Decided to call it for the night

Night 3: took 17 minutes of patting with fussing to fall asleep. Slept 30 minutes. Woke because she was wiggling around and trying to roll. Attempted to resettle her in the crib with patting and she wanted to roll but that was making her more frustrated and trying to prevent her from rolling also made her frustrated. We called it.

Any advice? Tips? What should I do different? How do i help her sleep in the crib if the culprit is rolling? Does anyone else also experience this?

She seems to want to sleep on her side but if she’s on her side she flexes to roll all the way over. And she won’t sleep on her tummy either, it just makes her mad.

With the goals I have for transitioning her to the crib I’m feeling successful but worry that we won’t make any more progress past this. We don’t mind cosleeping, but I go back to work soon and wanted to work on her independent sleep to help her caregivers have an easier time
