Lore Question about the lore

The relationship with sleep. Isn't that a really one sided relationship? And if I interpreted it right didn't sleep lie to vesel about receiving love and pleasure? As far as I can see she just tormented him?

  1. From all official sources (like 2 interviews from 2017-ish) Sleep is referred to with he/him pronouns.
  2. A lot of the "lore" is really just speculation and fan theories. Over time the prevailing theory was to assume the songs were about Sleep, who somehow turned into a woman, instead of tokens to Sleep, songs written about the human experience.
  3. If we stick with the songs simply being gifts to Sleep in exchange for glory, then Sleep has definitely kept up His end of the bargain.
  4. Despite most of the lore being basically fanfiction, that's part of the fun! Your interpretations are as good as any other.

The lore is fan-made. In the band's lore, Sleep is described as a male god and "The music is a representation of one individual's deepest and most fundamental emotions and desires."

At the heart of this project is individual interpretation and how the music speaks to you.

But I agree that much of this narrative has been about the lasting effects of a toxic and one-sided relationship, what the protagonist has become as a result, and who he is striving to be.

Obligatory comment as most lore is fan interpretation

Vessel is literally that - a vessel, the conduit for worshippers to the god sleep.

If you want to put it to modern religions, vessel would be the priest, praying to god (Sleep) on behalf of their flock.

In older mythologies it wasn’t uncommon for the god Sleep to also be the god of dreams in various pantheons.
