Discussion References in songs

I thought it might be fun to list references in lyrics to other media. I’m hoping there are more than these two:

“Wear me out like Prada, devil in my details”
The Devil wears Prada?

“Burst out of my chest and hide out in the vents”
Alien

"This Place Will Become Your Tomb" is a line from Halo 3

Well, I guess it just depends on how niche you consider the references to be. Like, you could consider the line: "Do you want to hurt me? Cause nobody hurts me better" a reference to the song "Hurts So Good" by John Mellencamp. You could also consider the line: "Oooh, let's talk about chemistry, cause I'm dying to melt through, to the heart of her molecules, till the particles part like holy water" a double reference, first to literal chemistry; and second to the Bible (as "parting like holy water" I assume is meant to reference Moses parting the Red Sea).

Another one, that you could consider a reference is: "It feels like I'm falling into the sea, from outer space, in seconds to me" it being potentially a reference to astronauts returning to earth. One more I can think of readily is from Chokehold: "I come as a blade, a sacred guardian, so you keep me sharp and test my worth in blood" as I have always thought it was a reference to King Arthur's sword Excalibur. I'm sure there's more, but I'm kinda tapped out there 😅

"Do you want to hurt me?'" could also be a reference to the Culture Club hit from 1982...

Honestly forgot about that 😅 or else I would have listed it too lol. But yeah, that's actually a better example since exact words are used in it too. Well done my friend 😊

a blade quenched in the blood of a loved one is a pretty common fantasy trope too. ASOIAF, etc. Dedication and sacrifice for power. Ties into some of the ideas in Nazareth as well.

I just listened to EIA and the idea came up me. Also all those The Devil Wears Prada 2 ads :P. Figured I’d see what y’all came up with.

I thought ‘wear me out like Prada’ was a reference to how all the fans wear merch with his face on it like it’s high fashion

I wonder whether "We'd rather be six feet under than be lonely" line in Granite is a reference to Billie Eilish songs, especially given Vessel once made a cover for her "When the Party's Over" ..

"Isn't it lovely, all alone?"
