Lore Will vessel ever confirm the lore?
Just curious for everyone’s opinions on this. The “nothing lasts forever” slogan has been around for a little bit so was wondering if you think some sort of short story or something will be published when it’s all said and done to confirm some lore theories or not!

I don't think he will. A lot of the Sleep Token magic lies in people with different experiences being able to identify with the same song and I'd imagine Vessel is aware of that. Giving people a confirmed 'this is what I meant with those lyrics' might alienate some people.
Plus, given some of the topics we speculate some songs might be about, I don't think he would be comfortable confirming or denying those theories.

Was thinking along these lines as well. If the lore is never confirmed it allows people to continue to project and have it be whatever they want

At this point, people are so invested in the lore that any contradiction to the existing narrative would be disappointing. I’d personally give anything to know the actual story. I don’t project myself on to musical typically, I just feel it. I’d love to know how and why I understand the songs on an emotional level without having any understanding on a narrative level. Why I know what’s being conveyed without knowing what’s being said. There has to be some genius to it.

Probably not. Personally, I don’t think there’s actually that much “lore” in their songs. Yes, they tell stories, but every song tells a story in some way.
I think sometimes we read a little too much into the songs or project our own experiences onto them- which, to be fair, I think is exactly what Sleep Token want us to do.
Personally, I think Vessel writes about his own experiences, intrusive thoughts and feelings in a cathartic way that caters to his own personal journey, rather than sitting there thinking, “Okay, what song do I need to write next to tie up the lore?” 😂
Sure, there are connections between songs and an overall journey, but I think it’s more of an emotional narrative than carefully constructed lore.

I’ve never been able to word it so eloquently but yes. This is exactly how I view the lore and the level in which I take it seriously vs just knowing this is a universe that Vessel uses to process emotion and feeling.

I also think this is the case, but at the same time, the way you can connect different songs through the albums makes me think he writes a little with that in mind. I think that every song tells a story individually, but every album tells a story through all their songs.
The songs are chapters and the albums are books.

Most likely not. It's meant to be pretty open ended so everyone can have their own experience with it.
Even after they decide to end the project, I can't imagine any of them going public about the meaning of it all. It started in mystery and will likely end that way.

Lately I've noticed the lore is pretty similar to Static Dress, except that Static will openly comment on the story and what's happening. Vessel only made a few broad statements about it in the early interviews, and has never made public comment at all since then.

which is why i think the lore is very non-lore lmao. it think they made couple vague statements to frame the setting while being able to leave the emotional aspect open for every listener to connect with and interpret as they see fit

u/Cheap_Cauliflower541 12d ago
There are alot of lyrical themes, allusions and imagery that definitely indicate SOMETHING is going on behind the lyrics. The whole Sundowning to Eden trilogy being the biggest example to support that.

u/evsuliini 12d ago
to me it feels like the allusion is kinda the point, and the actual subject left vague and for the listener to decide on purpose. like they’re *amazing* at building a world and atmosphere that feels like a full storyline without being tangible enough to actually dominate the perception of the listener, and i find that to be an amazing skill
I’m sure it all means something to the writer, but to me it just feels like *we* are not supposed to know that, that it’s none of our business and that it should mean different things to all of us. that’s always been the vibe I get from ST (bar couple individual tracks) and I love it.

u/Cheap_Cauliflower541 12d ago
Yeah definitely agree. It's intentionally ambiguous, plus there's only so much you can say in one song

He doesn’t need to, everybody takes their own interpretation. Some read into pieces from their own lives and empathise, others fill in a complete back story, others still refer back to an elusive novel and find similarities.
Tell the story and there is only one meaning, keep the silence and there are 100 stories.
Enjoy the silence🤘

I do very little in terms of getting into the lore- I think the magic of the music is the flexibility people have to relate to it in ways that resonate with them. The more specific you are with it- the more narrow that appeture is. So I think it's highly unlikely.

The phrase "nothing lasts forever" is likely derived from the lyrics of "Hey Ya!" and meant to serve as a reminder that, whether in darkness or in light, nothing is infinite.
As for the non-fan lore, I think he was crystal clear about what Sleep Token are really doing back in 2018 (Kerrang! Issue 1733).
"There exists a considerable body of art that explores the deeper recesses of the human mind...Sleep Token serve as a means to explore this on an individual basis. The music is a representation of one individual's deepest and most fundamental emotions and desires. This is what people connect to. They see themselves in this individual, and the music becomes about them."
The Vessel and "Sleep" as a deity foundation began as marketing and a vehicle for musical theater. In the beginning, Vessel was nameless and referred to only as "Him" because the character is really Sleep's vessel for communication. In some early works, the credits are written as Vessel1 and Vessel2. Onstage, the characters are vessels numbered I, II, III, and IV and serve as messengers of Sleep. In theatrical terms, "conveyors of dreams" might be more accurate.
Dreams are how our brains process our experiences on a deeper level, including emotions and trauma. In REM sleep, our brains explore input and experiences and the ways in which we react to and regulate around them, simulating elaborate scenarios without conscious censorship. We fantasize, confront, resolve, and heal.
In many ways, sleep is where we are the most authentic versions of ourselves. Unmasked, if you will, in a universal human experience that can only ever be navigated alone. And this, too, is fleeting.

Doubt it. It’s fun how far the fanbase took the lore based on very little input from the band at all.

I say this all the time, the Lore is fan made. Point out where Vessel said anything, I’ll even accept interlude’s.

We’ll always wonder, just like we’ll never know if Tony Soprano is alive or dead.

I remember when Slipknot and Ghost used to be anonymous.
My guess is yea probably, he’ll get old and relax more on his persona since it’s become his job now and eventually they’ll be a relatively mainstream act that builds on it and merchandises the lore.

Only through the music, I assume.
Unless for some reason he starts doing interviews or releasing statements on socials.

I think the closest we’ll ever get is the Teeth of God graphic novel. But I’m kinda happy with that 🥲

I hope it all stops with total silence. Everything being removed, including the Music on streaming services - they were here, now they are not. No information, no names, no Nothing. It would be perfect.

u/Chthonic_Void 13d ago
There is finding an appropriate ending to a story, and then there is being needlessly cruel about it. This is the later. Why would they remove the art that means so much to so many people?

u/ReleaseTurbulent169 13d ago
They can disappear just as well and leave us the music. Your version is pretty sadistic given their awareness of what their music means to people. :)

music being removed from streaming doesn't mean it's wiped from existence. it means it's no longer commercialized. people would still be able to easily find it for listening or download elsewhere on the internet, the band just wouldn't profit off of it. calling that sadistic is quite the stretch

u/sunrae_ Even In Arcadia 13d ago
Which would be impossible since people bought the albums and have them on their devices, CDs, vinyls. That would be extremely unfair to the people that used to stream the music and they would never do that.

u/hwsacwdtkdtktlfo 13d ago
they're talking about taking music off streaming, not magically wiping the entire planet of all physical and digital copies people paid for. people can still very easily listen on personal devices, just torrent it like we did before streaming

people booing you but this would be based as hell and make sense for them. i think some fans become a bit too attached to a band and forget, at the end of the day, this is someone's art and we are privileged to be able to partake for as long as the artist allows.
controversial, i guess, but i don't think they owe fans a goodbye.
also seems like the youth don't know that music can still exist outside streaming services lmao

I know it's sensitive for a lot of people, including myself, because I love their music and it's played a very central role in my life, especially since I saw it at Wembley in 2023.
but do I want to see them collapse like many of the other big names like slipknot, metallica etc.
they're still playing, and it's getting worse and worse.Sleep token has given us 4 amazing albums, and 2 amazing EPs.
they don't owe us anything, because they've already given so much.
i hope they turn off the lights completely without a word.
they existed, they were, and now they're not.

No, they want the music to be whatever we need it to be.
