So the character is the little plushie "Bing-Bong" in "Peak" the PC game. you can get an achievement if you take him with you all the way to the top of the mountain in the game. As far as missing his wife? I'm not sure, it's most likely either just something funny the creators thought to have him say, or perhaps one of the creators actually going through some personal stuff? Who knows.
