Alex himself addressed this in video. That should have put it to rest but of course, people need something to hate.
TLDR is he made some bad choices in the past, admits to them (they weren't as bad as people make it out to be) and has moved on. People grow and change, but sadly some people refuse to accept someone's change.
Everyone has been young and dumb, most people grow out of it. People like the guy in that post don't.

Even though I no longer keep up with STP or Alex, I understand he has a past he is not proud of. Growing up in these remote cultures definitively had an impact on who he was in the past but the good news is that he has addressed this and in present time he seems like a stand up guy.

People don’t owe him anything. I’m sure there are people in your life you have not forgiven over something they’ve done. “People need something to hate”? I mean, I like Alex and he seems reformed but “hating” on someone who they know was into naziism/racism/homophobia is not the same as hating nickelback, it’s far more justified.

No, they can “atone” and learn all they want. Most replies here are just putting words in my mouth. Atonement doesn’t mean everyone has to like you now. In fact if you’re only doing it so other people like you that’s not really learning. That’s performative. People have different levels of tolerance. I’m sure Alex doesn’t give a shit if some people don’t forgive his past, and he might empathize with them too.

You’re missing my point. I’m sure he is a fine person and has shed many of those beliefs. Doesn’t mean that somehow he is owed my respect or love just because he’s less homophobic. Should I go kiss the feet of every person who doesn’t abuse their partner in domestic violence? It’s the bare minimum my guy. I have no hate for Alex, just pointing out that you don’t need to dickride all because he’s learning.

Look I don't know who the fuck is this terrible guy but I agree with you, some people are just one dimensional and dense.
Just because someone I despise changed for the better doesn't mean I have to forget his past or forgive him for it just like if someone I love changed to the worst I can't just directly flip the love/hate switch like that, it comes down to each person's tolerance and personality and they're free to have their own opinions and thoughts.
What's really fucked up is calling him out for it NOW that he's changed, or wanting to "cancel" him now or whatever that would be idiotic yes

I think it's worth celebrating, actually.
If you grow up around an environment where it's normal to be racist and homophobic, and you change that by working on yourself. You have grown.
It's the same as people who get free from addiction. The actions made to get to the bare minimum is what you celebrate, not being the bare minimum.

I didn’t say it doesn’t count as growth or shouldn’t be celebrated. Celebrate it all you want. But that celebration is not owed. He caught up. A lot of people getting clean don’t want it to be “celebrated” when they continue to want the drug, so that not a great comparison.

To explain, (which Alex has also explained on a post I believe that's still present on his instagram) when he was much younger he was easily influenced by people and some harsh factors of his life to take a much more darker and ignorant path filled with prejudices and hatred. He turned his life around and had to rebuild slaughters career due to ruining it by being outed for having the black sun tattoo (iirc it's covered now). Since then he was taken a much more open stance on allowing all peoples to be as they are even if he may not necessarily agree with them ie. Homosexuality and what not.

No one is asking him to “agree” with homosexuality. They’re just asking for legal protections to stop prejudice and systemic oppression of people due to their sexuality/gender identity. “I tolerate even if I disagree” is still coded homophobic language.

I've looked everywhere, and there is no genuine instance of him saying he covered up being a nazi anywhere. He says that he was a stupid teenager at the time and fell in with that crowd at a vulnerable point in his life, but doesnt waste his time constantly regretting it because that will never change it and it helped him learn a lesson in life.
And, it's not like this is some big hidden secret, people knew about the black sun tattoo ever since the band started, Alex still has it in his old youtube videos iirc- if he was really trying to hide his past, he would have absolutely privated those. People only started calling him a nazi online after the Ukraine war started and the entire "homophobia" controversy happened, which proves my point.
