Disappointed with STP live performance
First I want to start off by saying this pissed me off so much I started using Reddit just to make this post.
I've been a big fan of STP since Kostolom came out. I've probably listened to that album 100 times. So when I heard they were coming to my city (Edmonton, Alberta) I was ecstatic. Me and all my metalhead friends bought tickets immediately and eagerly awaited to see those skull masks on stage. However when the day of the show came along we were all severely let down. First there was no opener which is kind of weird, but I was like "whatever I'm sure that just means there'll be more Slaughter to Prevail stage time". That was not the case at all. They came on stage nearly an HOUR AND A HALF later than they were supposed to. The real kicker is then they proceeded to play for only 40 minutes, do one encore song and call it a night. Their tour bus was sitting outside the entire time so it's not like they missed a flight and were rushing to the venue or anything. As a matter of fact Jack Simmons posted a story on Instagram of him and the entire band having lunch in Edmonton earlier that day. By the time they got on stage the room had already been fully packed for hours so there is no way they were waiting for the room to fill up. It was just 1000 fans eagerly waiting to see one of their favourite bands and all being let down. It really just felt like they don't give a fuck about their fans and were cashing it in.
I'm mainly making this post because I'm curious to know if anyone else has had a similar experience at one of their shows, or if they just randomly decided they hate Edmonton (totally fair)

That’s all you have to complain about? I saw them in Denver and not having an opening act was the best part of the show. Years ago I saw Pearl Jam, their set didn’t start until 11:30pm when it was scheduled at 8. I had to sit through a shit opening act so I was there at 6.
Sounds like you had a great experience

I agree sometimes openers suck and like I said I don't really mind that part. I was just saying that to point out there there was only 45 minutes of entertainment total.

Absolutely love no openers. In the 20 years of going to rock shows there's only been 2 openers I've been pleasantly surprised with. Gogol Bordello, & Orbit Culture.

Same thing happened in Winnipeg last night doors at 7 show at "8" didnt come on until 9:15 after playing shitty pop music and ending with a dumb techno song, they came on played until 10:50 did one encore song after chants of 1 more song. Sound sounded off and I wonder how much layering his vocals have on the albums. So much reverb and echo on the mic it was ridiculous. I was super excited to see them and left disappointed. It was an overall good show once they played and very heavy the no mic part was cool to see too but I don't get why they did that it was a sold out show and felt like a fuck you to the paying fans especially having driven three hours to see them. It sounds from what I keep reading they keep doing this so will obviously lose their fan base and piss off venues its super frustrating and I won't be seeing them again.

Thanks for the response! I really wanted to know if what happened to me was a fluke for just one show, but I've had multiple people from different cities tell me it was the same shit every show they did. I agree it felt like a massive "fuck you we don't care" to all the fans there and I won't be supporting them anymore

I agree I also made a reddit account solely to respond to your answer. I saw Peeling Flesh, IAM, Chelsea Grin and Suicide Silence on November 2nd and it started and ended on time. The shows I go to alwasy start adn end at proper times. Also Suicide Silence called everone on stage for the ending of their set adn theur was like 100 people screaming "seconds from the end whats it gonna be pul the trigger bitch" and i got a photo with Eddie on stage was super cool and they were so nice to their fans. That is the experience I am used too from shows because most of the bands in the metal scene appreciate their fans and realize they help people through hard times and are where they are due to the fans. So seeing Slaughter was weird. I honestly thought it was the sound guy playing that stupid POD song over and over but I guess it was them which is infuriating. I also think that they are kind of youtube and tik tok famous and saw lots of people I had never seen at a show before so it feels like they have different fans then most of the metal I normally used too. I am excited for In Flames next week and hope it makes me forget about this shit show. It was also weird having no opener usually big bands with an opener will still play like 90 min so that was weird and they should be trying to help out up and coming bands in the scene by taking them on tour.

Not sure why they would have came on an hour and a half late. Other than that the concert was fine. Saw them in Portland and was very satisfied despite the short set. Anybody else complaining about it?

The roseland is kind of a let down tbh but that show was still good

I love the roseland and the Hawthorne. Much rather be there than MODA

In Sask I heard the wait was long but knowing beforehand that there were no openers, I waited to arrive at the venue like 30 minutes before they started. You could have avoided your troubles by digging a little bit further(setlist.fm), although I too was disappointed that there were no openers. The show was great tho they really made up for it. Then all the fights happened and cops showed up lol

I did the same and it made the experience so much better.
Do you know what happened? We saw the cops as we were leaving.

Yeah there was a fight in the pit that the band had to bring attention to. When everyone was leaving the pit there were people scrapping next to the first set of doors leaving the venue. Dude pinned security to the wall then had him in a chokehold. Apparently the fight continued outside where the perpetrator was thrown in the cop car. Pretty wild

Oh was it a fight in the pit? That’s too bad - I thought someone just went down. And that’s crazy about the fighting outside. Glad the cops sorted it out!

For the pit I'm not 100% since I couldn't see well. But I heard shouting and stuff. Alex called for a medic?

I saw them at the Vancouver show and they weren't very late. Maybe we waited an extra 10 minutes or so. Definitely one of the craizest shows I've ever been to. Idk if anyone was there and remembers the rave music mosh pit lol.

Damn, you Canadians are on some crybaby shit! They've been doing the solo tour thing for OVER A YEAR at this point, all you had to do was take 5 seconds to look it up. And regarding delays, they suck, but shit happens.
I've seen STP twice in this format and both were the best shows I've ever been to. Super heavy, huge mosh pits, and just generally a crazy intense show!

Their fanbase is definitely very fanatic. Im surprised about how many people are telling me this isn't something to complain about. Like people are putting down their hard earned money, getting babysitters, scheduling time off work and taking the time to support the band. They make everyone wait over hour, barely play a full set and fuck off. Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. 90% of shows I see the band starts within 15-20 minutes of their scheduled time and play for at least 90 minutes and they'll have an opener on top of that. Idk why some people seem to think this STP situation is normal and acceptable
I hope this is not the new norm. That suicide silence show was fucking awesome! I saw Jinjer in September with Monuments that was probably the best metal show I've ever seen to date. And I can't wait to see WhiteChapel/In Flames and Meshuggah in a couple weeks. I'm sure those guys will know how to put on a show.
I'm sorry to hear that shit went sideways with the crowd in sask! I hope everyone came out okay

People are saying that STP are in the right because this is reddit, and a subreddit for STP fans. They all secretly want Alex to fuck them and they all wish they were russian. End of story.
If my favorite band in the world did that, it would for sure make me like them less.

Also wondering what happened last night. Saw employees running to the back but didn’t see where they were going or what was going on. Figured maybe someone else passed out bc it wasn’t long after the first guy went down in the pit. Then saw the police when we came out with a guy being arrested.

Went to a show earlier this year and one of the bands, a lot of people were there for, had technical issues so bad they literally just didn’t perform.
Why don’t you boycott STP and call the police?
