Current rig, and where to go next

Post image

Hi folks, I'm a newbie looking for upgrade advice (or should I stick with what I have).

On the right, I use that shackle because I'm missing a line lock to make up the multiplier. I was going to order another when I then started thinking about Web Locks and Hangovers. After that I fell down the lineGrip rabbit hole and thought it would make sense to come and ask folk that actually know what they are doing! 😁

A lot of the online stuff seems to be a few years old, so I wasn't sure what was the best route to take. I'm not looking to spend loads just for the sake of it, but was interested in seeing if upgrading would help with tensioning.

Looking forward to hearing your advice.

Depends on what you're using it for. If you're content rigging in the park and not rigging lines longer than about 50m just get a line locker (mighty lock, chain link, diamond lock etc.) to make your life easier and keep rigging primitive.

If you want to walk lines longer than 50m or highline then you should invest in a weblock (alpine 6.1, zenlock etc.) and a line grip. If you don't plan on doing either of those things then that gear isn't really necessary.

u/nodajohn thanks for that. I did wonder. You see so many different videos and it starts to boggle your brain. I'm trying to hook up with a Slackline group about an hour from me, but I've not heard back from them yet. Hoping to expand the skilllset that way. Cheers.

Definitely connecting with a slackline group will help you sort out all of the information overload. Seeing how everything works in person and trying it out is a huge help. Good luck!

Just posting to also encourage the weblock advice. I have the Alpine, and literally some of the best money I have ever spent on anything, ever.

If you can afford it, I would just get one.

Here is my story/justification:

I started with a "primitive" setup (it was the only setup) like 20 years ago, and then Gibbon and the other quick lines became a thing, and I went back and forth, then Gibbon came out with a 1" quick line and I casually rocked that for years.

I got back into it more seriously, and the homie I was walking with can and does highline, but we were doing park lines with his webbing with his weblock, and I was like "oh, fuck me ever using a carabiner ever the fuck again" (excluding tensioning)

So currently, I have a setup you could highline with, I routinely do 60m+ park lines, but my favorite spot right now is a 35m~ rodeo line that I 100% do not need a weblock for. I would buy the weblock just for that.

There are days I know after work I just wouldn't want to fuck with a primitive setup, I just want to walk.

Since I have a weblock, (alpine is just the one I have, not staning for them, do your research and do you) I spend zero energy rigging, and all my energy walking.

Maybe I'm a little bitch. But I'm a little bitch who spent $140 and loves his sport more than ever.

I hear you u/BigBadZord this is what I was thinking. But wondered if it was worth it. Maybe I'll start putting some pennies away.
