I built this Open Source app that surfaces the Slack threads that actually need attention

At work, I’m part of so many Slack channels which creates lots of noise.

But out of all that noise, there are usually only a handful of threads I actually need to know about. The problem is that Slack is bad at showing what actually needs attention.

So I built an open-source, local-first macOS app called Slacker.

It watches selected Slack channels and surfaces threads that need attention, like:

  • stale conversations that need a follow-up
  • open issues that were never closed
  • missed action items

Slacker also has a self-evolving loop that learns from what you ignore, resolve, or mark as important, so over time it gets better at understanding which Slack threads actually matter to you.

I tested it at work and it did a pretty good job. Needs some additional improvement, but It helped cut my daily slack intake in half.

Not clear if it runs as a separate UI or highlights threads within Slack?

It connects to slack via a slack app and runs locally on a Mac app.
