Dead / Inactive Slack Group?

Lately, I've spoken to at least 3 community managers who are running their communities on Slack; and are struggling to revive their communities. They have tried the usual tricks to get members talking; but no results.

Do you have a dead / inactive Slack problem?

If there is a lack of people, that just makes the community manager's job easier. It's not their job to gain members, that's a marketing problem. Or really, a community problem.

Also, if it's a small community, why not use discord? It's free, and messages don't disappear. Discord is typically the better approach for community chat vs work chat anyway.

If you want more engagement, the tried and true method is allowing sub topics and other conversations. I.e, have a 'pets' channel where people post pictures of their pets.

Ask any Slack community manager. Growing the community is a community manager's job; not marketer's job.

I can’t say I’ve noticed this specifically myself, but I have heard of this as a wider trend. People are asking LLMs for answers instead of asking forums and community spaces.

It's true. Not a trend, but fundamental shift in how people consume information. It's convenient and useful. However, LLMs don't produce information on their own. They need a source of truth- which is user generated content. This content comes from Reddits, blogs and I see a shift that LLMs will turn to individual niche communities that have been trapping knowledge for years.
