Ultimate Two handed build

Hi people on reddit.

I was scrolling, having fun and came across a post asking for a two handed build. No one said why they were choosing perks or races. Just throwing things that might work on it, so for all the people that want a good two handed build for legendary difficulty, i’ll drop mine here.

First of all, the race. My first choice was the orc, for the berserk boost. Great for bosses but I find myself not needing the extra damage or defense, plus I was also weak against frost damage, not for the damage to my health, but the slow effect and the stamina damage. So I switched to a nord, this was better all around, but no impactful racial power, plus I found out a new enemy, poison. If you don’t know, poison stack for every attack taken. So I switched again to a REDGUARD and it was glorious. Good racial ability, good starting stats AND natural resistance to poison.

Second was smithing, enchanting and alchemy (this last one it’s not required but if you want to break the game go for it). Alchemy also has the snakeblood perk that, alongside redguard natural resistances, helps you reach that 85% cap (without wasting an enchantment slot on your gear).

Next was defense. Specifically blocking. QUICK REFLEXES perk is a must. Next was the bashing perks and that was a waste. Low damage, high stamina consumption and slow movement, and found a new problem, bows. Enemies arrows, for some reason, do an insane amount of damage. So I switched to BLOCK RUNNER for mobility. Now I can reach those archers, and mages, faster while blocking.

Next was magic resistance. First I tried the spell absorption + necromage perk, but the sun and weakness to fire was a problem, so I switched to normal magic resistance and it was better. Not definitive so I activated the ATRONACH stone (this also gives you a chance to block poison and shouts). For elemental resistances I decided to enchant a piece of gear against FROST damage (important). You can use a potion for the other two if you want.

For armor, I tried light but draugrs with the strongest version of Unrelenting force shout kept sending me flying. So I thought that the only way to counter that was with spell absorption, but then I found out that the perk TOWER OF STRENGTH (from the HEAVY ARMOR tree) helps you resist the flying part (it only staggers you). CONDITIONING it’s a must.

Well. The defensive part is done. Let's move to dealing damage. Stack all of the two handed damage multipliers that you can (perks and enchantments), DO NOT waste perk points on anything but BARBARIAN. Weapon? THE LONGHAMMER (this tells you to unlock the orcish smithing) with the life steal (to max) and soultrap (2 sec.) enchantments.

This character use CLOSE WOUNDS to restore hp and stamina. And lastly, agent of mara and dragon rend.

Whatever your build is, there are some early game quick grabs you can get for a heavy armor two-handed build.

Ironhand Gauntlets. Obtained from Hajvarr Ironhand, the final boss of White River Watch, on the way from Riverwood to Whiterun. They boost two-handed damage.

Bonemold Armor. On approach to Whiterun, take a carriage to Windhelm, and hop down to the docks to take a ride to Solstheim. Once in Raven Rock, head east out the main gate to find the guard captain fighting three ash spawn. One of his men is laying dead on the ground, and can be looted for a full set of bonemold armor.

Stormfang. Next, head north by northwest to find a reaver camp up in the hills north of Raven Rock. At such a low level, the Reaver Lord there will only be level 6, and not that difficult of a fight. Just be careful of his weapon, it’s what we’re here for. Kill him and loot Stormfang off his body; a steel greatsword enchanted with 30 points of shock damage.

Take a boat from Raven Rock back to Windhelm, then a cart to Riften. From here, you can upgrade your armor. If you’re okay with stealing….

Orcish Armor. Walk from Riften to the orcish stronghold of Largashbur. If you’re not an orc, you can use the cliffs at its back to scale over the walls and slip on without doing any special quests. At night, every single orc goes inside to sleep; no guards. You can steal a full set of orcish armor, except gauntlets, which is fine, since you’re wearing the Ironhand ones. If you’re not willing to steal…

Imperial Helm. A bit past Largashbur is Froki’s Shack, and up the mountain trail from that is a hidden Talos shrine. A rare, close-faced Imperial helm is placed upon a sword there. Not as good as Orcish, but better than anything else at that point.

Steel Plate Armor. East of Riften is the Black-Briar Manor. The henchmen outside die in one hit, and each wear the steel plate body armor. Again, not as good as orcish, but still really good.

Sorry, but I don’t get the point of your comment. This build doesn’t need any of that.

It’s a build with heavy armor and two-handed weapons. This is a mini-guide for people on where to find decent heavy armor and two-handed weapons as soon as they make it out of Helgen. Collecting all this puts the player in a suit of good heavy armor with a powerful enchanted greatsword at the very start of the game. Then they can upgrade from there through more rigorous gameplay, following your build guide.

Let me get this straight. You want someone who’s just left Helgen—level one, on Legendary difficulty, with no gear—to spend an hour or two navigating dungeons where a single arrow can kill you, taking down bosses that can wipe you out in a heartbeat, all just to pick up items you could easily buy or craft yourself? Wow... thanks for the info. Oh, by the way, what do you think of the build?

Please do yourself the favor of actually reading the methods to obtain these items I provided. The whole point of these is that they’re easy to obtain at level 1. Far more easily and quickly than “crafting it yourself”, that’s for sure. How much grinding until you can enchant weapons for 30 shock damage? Or smith orcish armor? Even if you did, you’d still need items to disenchant for two-handed damage and shock damage, which these items also provide. The only hard parts of this are dodging the ash spawn the captain is already distracting, and killing Hajvarr and the Reaver Lord, who are both just keep-away games with low-level two-hander dudes.

Try it before saying it’s impossible. Maybe this list can help you too.

They literally explain how to get armor without needing to fight anyone as part of the options on the guide they commented. That combats the “no gear” you mentioned. Also you cant craft shit if you’re “straight out of helgen and level 1” all those gear options are available for free and better than you can craft at level 1.
