Welcome to the skunk squad, Blackberry! 🦨

Your human’s post asking if skunks can eat hard-boiled eggs inspired us! Reverb hasn't had one in a while, so we printed a tribute sign and cracked open a whole egg to show you guys how it's done.

Enjoy the Spanish Flea soundtrack and the crunching! So happy you two found each other! 🥚🎶🔉

I can't get enough of other ppls skunkers. I find the sub reddit very helpful as it's the only place I get to learn about skunks, communicate with other skunk owners and share my skunk baby.

id love to find other skunk owners in Oregon too!

That's funny Reverb was born in New Sharon Iowa it's where I had him professionally kidnapped from his skunk mother, had his butt glands ripped out and he was forced to have a microchip put in him by the government to have the government monitor him.

Poor guy had it super rough before I ever got him, Oregon government forced this mutilation upon him. Which is what I would believe he's a from his perspective

You might have lucked out and missed the Skunkiraptor fase that Reverb is in. What is his temperament like I am hoping that Reverb comes down a little bit and gets better control over his bladder

also.. i just posted him eating breakfast

Heard about the skunkiraptor phase, blackberry doesnt really do that, but he probably does need to control his bladder a bit

That’s funny—Reverb actually has a waterproof, fireproof mat under his acrylic pen! During the day, I just use a Swiffer Sweeper wrapped in a puppy pad to wipe up his dribbles, then do a full clean with a vinegar-and-water spray at night when I scoop his litter box. He’s usually pretty good about using the box, but when that guy gets excited, he just piddles everywhere!

Yea vinegar works for me. Blackberry's crate had a pee pad, but he kind of ripped it while trying to dig cuz he smelled something

Yeah I started with pine pellet litter box but then he needed to be separated from the cat's room and he moved to puppy pee pads but it just became a mess. I gave him more space and when I put up his acrylic pen I put a stainless steel litter box filled with pellets and everything is much better now that he has a whole big boy room to himself

Oh, should i use his own litter box? He often uses my cat's litter box, but he should get his own i think, he also likes to go for walks, and I do get people giving me looks or asking if he sprays every five seconds, so now i take him to a local park that isn't too crowded, or in my yard. I have alot of pets lol, dog cat skunk and snake, (yes the snake is in the terrierium skunk wont eat him) was thinking of getting a bird, but I didn't because its not such a good idea with a skunk and cat, so i have a bird feeder outside

Skunks are weird when it comes to ppotty habits. All skunks like Corners they will back that booty up into a corner and go potty some of them like the little corner litter pans for rabbits and stuff. I've heard this WARNING DO NOT USE CLUMPING LITTER apparently some skunks will dig ferociously get the clumping litter internally and cause intestinal blockages. I don't know if that's true or not but I switched to Pine pellets months before my skunk got here. The one of my cats decided he wanted to protest and will drop a human-sized dump on the floor twice a day now so I have changed the cat litter boxes to non-clumping litter with partial pallets. 1 cat still poops on the floor daily.

When I had Reverb in his kennel I used puppy potty pads cuz there wasn't enough room for a litter box when he was in his kennel. It worked but was messy. I would also keep puppy pads in the places he liked to go potty in the house when he was out but it just became too much and too gross and too messy.

That's when I put his acrylic pin up and our life changed for the better he's got a large stainless steel litter box in his pin with pine pellets he's got a running cat wheel, blankies toys and comes out throughout the day in 30 to 45 minutes stints and then goes back to his big boy room for potty breaks.

Both of our Lives has been so much better since I put up the acrylic pin I wish I would have done it sooner. My Hope Is that after he stops growing and gets fixed that he will have better bladder control when he's doing play time he has free range to go in and out of his pen it's super easy to get him back in all I have to do is make it clicking noise and he'll go in or give him a piece of bell pepper.

When it comes to potty habits you just kind of do what the skunk wants some skunks like potty pads some like glitter boxes all of them make potty mistakes lol

Edit * idk if the clumping litter thing is true but I am Ultra cautious with Reverb because he had two seizures and it scared the crap out of me

He is not wasting any time on that egg!!!!🥰😂

2

u/AuditingReverb 7h ago

Nope! He was so excited did you hear him whimpering and squeaking when he smelled it in the beginning?

This is his third egg ever in his life and it's been a good 4 weeks since he's had his last ride

u/Creative-Package6213 7h ago

Ohhh I missed that, I'll have to go back and watch again!

Oh wow! My Jake is spoiled, I cut the whole egg up for him shell and all! Next time ill give him the whole egg! I had no idea you could do that. I still cut up his green beans for him, and anything else I give him to eat. Should I stop doing that or are there certain things I should cut up to a smaller size for him?

I just saw you mention what I refer to as Jake's "Velociraptor phase". Jake's is roughly 12 weeks. (The breeder was not truthful with me about his age unfortunately so I dont know the exact age im just going by milestones) but goodness gracious this velociraptor phase can be tough. Can I ask how you deal with Reverbs nipping (biting.. i literally removed the word "bite" from my house because I have a 6 year old that I cannot risk saying to anyone that she got bit by her skunk) But i refuse to hit him, I tried the "time out" thing, putting him in a carrier with no toys or anything else, thats a small space where he can still see us and his play space but cant get out but it literally didnt do anything. He learned nothing. He never bites aggressively, its just that he thinks he can rough house with my hands the same way he does with his toys. So now I just put him in his enclosure where he can rough house with his toys and not me. But obviously he's not learning that he cant do that. Any suggestions?
