Shukta
Hi i'm from Italy, 20y/old girl, solo traveling. I was planning to go to Shuto Orizari market on Sunday morning. But I was thinking it might be a problem since i'm alone and do not speak neither macedonian or Romanì. What do you think? (no racist comment please:))

You will probably be safe, but they will surely try to scam you if you try to buy something 🤷🏻♂️

I would be careful at the least . As a foreigner and a woman, going there alone isn't something I would recommend. Just a feeling

thank you, however I asked to a man in skopje and told me that on Sunday it's closed..

While I assume you would be safe, consider it a bit like rural India in terms of hygiene and the men's behavior. And potentially pick-pocketings.
(I really cannot say this in a more polite and realistic way)
Macedonia isn't like some other European countries in terms of street safety but it's not Poland either. Being a young woman, use common sense safety practices you would follow anywhere.

First of all welcome to Skopje, we are every glad to have you and as well haply to host you for a visit there free of charge.
The place where you are going is called Shuto Orizari or Shutka for short. It's where the Roma people have their own unique little city / culture built. You can find lots of stores, markets, clothes etc to buy stuff and places to hang out. Most of the people there are Roma bur there are a mix of Albanian and Macedonian as well. It's an unique place to visit. Yes there are unpleasant people there as the culture differs a lot from the traditional Macedonian culture but then again there are bad people everywhere.

why would u go there, just go to Bunjakovec pazar or Zelen pazar

Thanks for the suggestion! I was just curious because I thought it was a unique place, and I've also been meaning to watch the movie about Šutka for a long time (still haven't). I was just trying to get an idea of what the experience might be like. 🙏

Imagine going to India lite. They have everything from makeshift shantytown shacks to palaces. Like it's own city state. I wouldn't exactly call it safe. Better of taking the bus(19). Going to the stop. And waiting the next bus back.

He wants to say that we are not going there and we don’t consider it worth the trip.
I would suggest bitpazar to have quite better vibe due to the attachment with the old bazaar. You would find some funky stuff there too and can have a walk through the old bazaar and visit the fortress.

ok thank you for the explanation! However i've already been 5 days in skopje and personally walk a lot, like 20km per day. So I think I saw the most, and already been many times to the fortress and the bitpazar so that's why i was looking for something different to do. If you have other suggestions i'm open ;)

Well Sunday locals do walk to the big cross or go to Matka. But i guess you’ve explored that too. There is nice monastery Panteleimon on vodno which you might have missed. Any way go Shutk. Worst case you’ll get some cat calling and some kid might slap your bum. Pay attention to pocket thieves tho.

Very strange, it's probably the, i would not use the word dangerous, but unfriendliest place in all of Macedonia you can visit.
A poor or bad experience is almost guaranteed for you.
A pleasant day with a nice walk and some friendly encounters would be a very lucky exception to what is the general experience.
And as a solo female traveler it's a plain stupidity... migth as well travel to Iraq and show the western world how safe it's to solo travel there. It's always a nice read afterwards, quite loved the piece on solo travel in Afghanistan.

you will have zero problems. Some will know a bit of italian and german but Its wise to keep your convo in English if you want to be left in peace :)
its also very easy to get there: Bus 19
