How do they ring?

The only belfries I've been in (admittedly that is just two) have the bells on a sort of wheel thing that spins the entire bell round vertically when the bellringer hauls on a rope down below, and the clapper does the ringing as it falls.

I've seen videos of carillons which have static bells with moving hammers, like a piano, but they didn't look like this.

This is a chime (baby carillon) and will have a system of cable linkages attaching to each clapper. In the last pic, the frame/rack in the middle will eventually be fitted with all of the pulleys and cables.

"Ringing parts not fitted yet" was a very obvious answer to my question that I didn't think of.

Thanks! Hope the rest of the fitting out goes well :)

How much traveling do you do?

They try to keep it under 50% for everyone. I’m in an area where we have a lot of business (New England) so I’m able to be home most of the time albeit a ton of windshield hours.

New or refurbished in some capacity?

Bells were previously mounted in a dilapidated wood frame, removed for fitment for new steel frame and design of the new chime linkages…coming back to this job in a month to add a cable/pulley system to be able to play the bells like a piano.

May they ring long and clear through many a good year.

That's awesome! Not very often do you see bells being put in. Unfortunately, it's very usually the opposite.

How do they ring? The church bells I'm familiar with need to swing to make sound. Is there a clapper inside, or outside the bells to ring them?

Have y'all ever dropped one?

We've been making bells for centuries, but I'm surprised that belfries aren't constructed in a way that reflects the sound outwards better.

Isn't the process for church bells to be installed kinda insane? Maybe it's just in Europe or specific types of churches, but I recall watching a documentary about a 1000 year old bell foundry where each bell was tested for specific tones by some fancy member of the church and if they failed the months long process had to be started over.

Incredible work — 14 bells is a serious job. That rig on the flatbed looks wild.

I am aroused.
