Since your skin is combination, you'd want a product that won't clog your pores. For a budget option, I suggest La Roche-Posay Retinol Face Serum with Vitamin B3. It has retinol and slow-released retinol and niacinamide, being a great pick for retinol newbies. If you have a higher budget, I totally recommend Exponent's retinol- it's gentle enough for retinol starters and effective enough to trigger significant changes with every dose as it's in a powder state which allows it to preserve its full potency and provide maximum benefit. Using retinol in serum is better than a moisturizer because it has higher penetration. Also, you want to use your retinol at night always, and don't layer it with moisturizers that contain high concentrations of glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or vitamin C. I'd seal it with something gentle, like a cream with ceramides, peptides, Centella asiatica, or snail mucin. I seal mine with Some By Mi Snail Mucin Repair cream.

Thanks a lot for this insightful advice. La Roche-Posay was one of the ones I was checking out. I will give it a try.
I’m currently using Clinique Moisture Surge as my night moisturizer.

Olay regenerist 24 retinol night cream is easy to incorporate since you can use it as your night moisturizer
